Check this out!!! (KS)

First of all thank you to everyone who posted in my previous thread about being shaking mad with KS repacement.
Best advice out there:
- use 6 pointed 12mm flex socket
- apply bolt loosener (pbblaster or generic)
- get a small handed person (sexy girl preferably) to pull off and start the bolt

Now the real beef.
I got my KS off e-bay. Dude claimed it was used, because he pulls them off engines that don't require them. But it is in perfect working condition. His rating was 99.7% on 700 items sold too. $75 is a good price too, so I got it. With the above advice it was a 10 min job. I removed the intake and cleaned the TB while I was at it.
Took the car for a spin afterwards. Felt very good. I'd be going 80 in no time, much better throttle response etc.
But to be certain it is all OK, I pulled the code again....and guess what...

******* KS (0304) again!
I already e-mailed the dude and waiting for a response.

i paid $90 shipped from ebay from user sonya_clark, did you reset the ECU properly? did the sensor get banged around whiel you were installing it? reset and try again, sucks though because ebay doenst help at all with things that dont work, the best you can do is leave poor feedback, which usually results in someone returning you poor feedback just to be jerks

Well, I just recently installed an intake and the roar is so sweet that you imagine that you feel extra power anyways, and the throttle body cleaning that was nasty as hell adds a little punch too. All together I don't know if the KS has changed any or not.
How do you reset the CEL anyways?

first of all, never ever buy used maintance parts, cuz the quality of a "used product" varies. i think you probably got ripped off...

why not pay extra $15 and get brand new for $90 shipped to your door and get your 380mi+/tank and good performance?

try to e-mail him to see if you can get your money back. tell him the knock sensor is not in "used condition", it's in "dead condition". tell him you are gettin KS CEL, horrible gas mileage, lags and between rpm intervals. just make sure the tone of the e-mail is in a calm manner. i believe something will work out..hopefully u can at least get half of your money back or something...

good luck and another great lesson i guess...

Do you have to reset the ECU after replacement?
Last night I didn't and after I ran the code (after KS replacement) 0304 was flashing.
This morning I resetted the ECU and 0505 flashed.
So seems like everything is OK right? Maybe the sensor was good afterall...
What you guys think?

Hmm, wait a few days and check it again to see if the code returns.

I got a KS from this same ebay person, I installed it and reset the ECU. My car pulls muchhh better than it has ever done in the past 2yrs Ive had the KS code. It could possibly be that another problem is flicking on the CEL, I would guess it could be the O2 sensor.

did you reset the ecu immediately after the install or did you also still see the 0304 and reset it then?
how long have you had it on? I believe I recently read a thread where you said you just replaced, but I am not sure.

I am about to go for a drive. I hope I didn't over/undertighten the bolt...
P.S. How the hell did you hear the knocking? I guess you just have to know what are you listening for...

Clear the ECU (see sticky). Verify that the code is 0505. Check the ECU code again after driving the car for a few days. If 0304 comes back, check the connector, wiring, etc. Also, measure the resistance of the KS, if is is not around 525K, it is definitely bad.

Yes, you do need to reset the ecu. I had knock sensor and rear heated o2 sensor codes and after replacing all knock and all 3 o2 sensors, the code still flashed. Reset the ecu and drove for about 200 miles and checked for codes...nothing! =)
