It depends on where you're racing. If on the track, I'd say he's got better than even odds of beating you as the Max doesn't corner as well as a Civic. If we're talking straight line, you should walk him as the HP/TQ difference is pretty large.

Dude I used to work those things in my 91 max se 5sp single over head cam. With my 95 I beat a turbo si at the strip. There slow. You will kill him. By cars and cars.

I've raced a bunch of GS-R tegs from a 40-ish roll in my stock 5spd and I've been able to inch on them each time. From a stop they get owned by VQ torque, but they're speedy cars from a roll. The Si is slower, so I don't think you'll have much trouble as long as your knock sensor is still alive and kicking.

a stock maxima 5 spd is still faster than a si. Other factors involed are driver skill.. and i'll let u be the judge of that.

You will toast the SI. From a roll and definitely on the highway.

A friend of mine has an Si. We raced a few times on the why, rollin at 40, three honk, and go. Im an auto and walked him BAD, really bad, I had ypipe, cai, exhaust though and he was stock so it wasnt really fair. It was so bad though I dont think he would have even been close w/ identical mods. I felt bad afterwards b/c his face was all sad.

hehe, its funny, but thats why i stopped racing people i knew/liked.

there was this real nice guy that kept throwing money at his 5.0 thunderbird and losing to my dynasty.. i felt so bad because he didnt deserve it, but when he was gone i was like lol dynasty OWNS!

anyway they all stopped talking to me so i guess i cant race my friends anymore cuz they're gone.

OT: three san antonio members in one thread?? HOW CAN THIS BE?!?!? its like a miracle or something.

It will be a close race,,,, This v6 mustang ***** thinks shes faster then me! I was talking to her at work yesterday, typical dumb woman, but mines a mustang. I was like, I know but I AM faster, I told her if she wanted we could race, she said she didnt want my money!!!! I was so ****ed, she even got another girl on her side, I told her that her car weighed a little more than mine, and that mine had more factory HP, and even more because i'm modded. (CIA, Y-pipe) No one at my job believes me that i'll walk that thing..........

variable valve timing = VTEC, I know someone would have asked...

+ that is true, as much as I hate hearing people talk about vtec it is a great system, imagine it on our V6 engines!

Going down the I95 in N.Carolina, a pal of mine driving a 2001 Civic SI were doing about 70mph. I cignalled to race, let him pass me by a car then slammed the gas and I was gone. I drive an auto 1999 SE and you should have seen the look on his face.
I haven't seen him in a while, he must be driving a Maxima now...

A lot of newer cars have some form of variable timing emission control although I think the first manufacturer to make a big deal about it was Honda/Acura. Lexus called theirs ZTEC for awhile.

A friend of mine has a Civic SI with CAI , 5 speed. I'm driving a stock Max (putting in my GReddy SP2 Exhaust as we speak) 5 speed with my spare and back seat and all my stuff i carry around with me. I pulled a 15.87 and the best he did was a 16.1 . I know he can drive well b/c I saw his R/T's. Mine were in the 8's. so yea, on a track we will beat him by a bit.

aite look. beating a civic is nothing to be proud of. beating a civic is expected. all civic besides SI are SOHC. b16a is overrated. ur talking about a 190hp vs. 160hp, and let's not even talk about the torque difference. civic with basic bolt-on still slow. they will never be fast without some major upgrades, aka engine swap, turbo, nitrous. all motor for them is no good.

our maximas and civics are in different class, so please beat a civic all day. in fact don't even race any civic. cuz u know ur gonna win, you will win. so why waste your gas on them? save yourself a WOT please...

mod please lock the thread?

If you want a challenge, find a newer V6 Accord or Corolla S.

You'd waste the SI. There was a guy that would race people around where I live all the time in his 2000 SI. He had CAI, headers, exhaust, and I think ecu. He had raced a 95 GXE this other local guy had (which was in pretty bad shape and the guy can't drive 5spd) and beat the max. So, anyway, one night I show up and everyone wants me to race him because they know we are both pretty quick. Anyway, I beat him in the 1/4 by about 4 carlengths or so, so he wants to go again. We go a few more times and by this time he is totally embarrassed. He wouldn't even talk to me. I heard from other people that he was ****ed off about being beat by a family car. (LOL) He was so ****ed off that he recently invested $4,700 into some exotic turbo setup. Then, within a week or so, he ended up frying his engine!!! Anyway, that's my story about SI's. Don't worry. If you know how to handle your car well, you'll easily take him.

Ok, the max will own the civic unless he's a good driver and u dont do so well - then the outcome can change.
Vtec is not Just variable valve timing, the ET in vtec means electronic lift control which means it changes the lobe set on the cams, goes from low end cam specs to high end lumpy specs, ever heard a vtec engine stuck on high end lobes? It's a pretty lumpy idle.
The b16a on paper is a very very good engine, its geometry is beautiful and Honda deserves credit for that, but comparing a little A$s 98ci b16a engine to a 182ci vq30 is just not fair, the torque is just killer. The civic si, for what it is, is a good car - it's just the ricers that adopted Honda cars as the ideal cars to mod is what is making them look so bad!
Also, the corolla S is ****, nothing special there - Im thinking your talkin about the corolla XRS 6spd with the celica 2zz but with 170hp instead of the celicas 180.

my 1st kill was against a civic si around 3 yrs ago when i 1st got my max. I smoked him so bad that when i got up to 80 i just let off and like 5 sec later he passes me with the ricer fly by. what a lil pee on. he had the nerve to tell me he was a 12 second car. if i was witty enough i woulda said some **** like "yeah...... a min and 12 sec" i see him every now and then at some U of M basket ball games and i give him a lil wave. He now drives a Semi STi ( took a non turbo subaru 2.5L imprezza and added a beefed up turbo to it.) He is krazy fast now.dont be affraid of a civic man, as long as you dont hear a psssssht noise you should murk him.
