I'm sure there's a continual stream of Knock Sensor replacement glory stories on here but HOLY $#%& I just did mine tonight!
WOO HOO!!!
You guys probably remember me, the $800 Maxima SE guy.
Well after doing countless other repairs, I had left this off for last to do eventually.
Now after driving it for a couple weeks the lack of power at times was starting to bug me. NO MORE NO MORE.
Got my KS for $85 shipped from one of the ebay guys. Attempted to do it the other day but got frustrated. Borrowed a 12mm flex socket and used a 18" or so extension. I recommend 3/8 stuff over 1/4 for extra leverage to break the old one free. I first tried 1/4" then switched to 3/8" along with a pipe on the ratchet for leverage. I also removed the air filter housing and surrounding ducts for more room, I'm surprised some online directions don't mention that but it helps a lot for the extra couple of minutes to get it off. When putting the new one in, I put one piece of black electric tape over the head of the bolt to make it fit snug in the socket so it wouldn't fall off in there. Worked like a charm and I was able to wiggle the socket off no problem.
After finishing, I first went and reset the check engine light. Checked it again and all clear. Time for a test drive. Well I've read some people saying it takes a couple days for the computer to adjust before feeling a difference. Not me, Immediate Power! I was screaming around and could not stop laughing out loud in the car! I then just starting yelling HOLY SH%% out loud over and over and couldn't stop.
My God this car now flies.
I gotta change the brakes. Whatever POS pads the previous owner put on fade out way too fast under this kind of driving.

do you replace the knock sensor only when it gives codes???? my car is a 95 with te original knock on there, if i replace it will i see any gains or wil it be a waste since my current one is not shooting out ecu codes.
it would be a waste unless it is throwing a code. manually pull your ecu codes, as in my case it didn't throw a CEL, but it pulled the code for KS, I have a new one on the way, i'll let you know how it goes
Nissan Part # for the one I got was:
22060-30P00
My car has 180k miles but I've read people on here having to change them anywhere over 100k or possibly even less. I believe the code for it is 03-04 and remember you have to check for the code, your check engine light will not come on for this one. It could always be age just as much as milage. My original one was actually cracked when I pulled it out but that could have happened when I took it out I guess.
My wife actually took the car this morning. I'm waiting to get a call from her to see if she notices it (i kinda mentioned it when i crawled into bed at 1am). If she doesn't notice a difference she's nuts, its not the same car it was yesterday.

Glad to finally see the power ! :P I just changed it, it was kind of fustraiting trying to stick your hand in that razer blade fest wasn't it... I was forced to duke it out with the blades I didn't feel like waiting to get a swivel :P It was well worth it though.
I did mind with a regular 12mm box wrench. All I did was spray some liquid wrench on the KS bolt, remove the EGR Solenoid (1 bolt, very easy) stick my hand in there with the wrench then used a screwdriver and my hand for leverage on the other end of the wrench. Was very easy this way, took me under 30 min. to do the job.
I hope gas milage seems to improve with this but I'll be of no official word on it. My odometer only works 1/3 of the time so I can't figure out my milage. Maybe someone else can pass on their experience.
Replaced my KS after 110K miles. Yes, it does add a TON of power to the car. I drove for a long time with it out, and never realized what I was missing until I replaced it.
I would strongly recommend taking out the EGR solenoid and using leverage when trying to pop ou the old sensor.
But if you have the code, change it out. You'll be glad you did!
