Ok I was crusing around town today and I pull up at a red light next to a silver ford contour svt. I think for an american midsize car its pretty good looking. So I look over at the guy and wave and roll down the window to tell him nice car. I guess he thought I was saying lets go cause when the light turned green he took off very quickly. I was not in the racing mood so I did not even attempt to catch up. I get to the next light and he is pointing and laughing at my car. He has the nerve to roll down the window and say that foriegn cars are gutless and I should get an american car. I went very quickly from a no race attitude to I'm gonna kick this guys butt. I let him know that I was not racing back there he said that I should not wave and roll down the window next time. I say ok then lets go. Light turns green I get a great start no tire spin at all just a little bitty chirp and I rocket to a 1.5 car length advantage in first gear, by second gear I've got over 2 cars then when I hit third gear I see a white puff of smoke from under the contours hood his flasher go on and he pulls over. I go to wal-mart come back and his car is being towed. Thats american cars for you.

Its not my car

Well you see the maxima I've been driving for the past month is not mine. My car has been out of comission for that time (it was a 1989 supra turbo, the turbo went out). In anycase its my friends 1998 5spd se. He has two other cars a bmw 3?? and a chevy truck. He does landscape work so he drives the truck almost all the time and he drives the bmw around more than the max so until I get my car going again or buy a maxima which is what I plan on doing I'm driving his car. Of course I pay for all the gas, and a months worth of insurance and an oil change. To get to the point his car is bone stock other than an eibach lowering kit. I keep telling him to get some stuff but he does not care about making cars faster. He says that they pay guys millions of dollars to design the cars, messing with them only makes them tear up more quickly. So he only does things like lowering and rims, he does not mess with the engine part. I dont care still a fast car stock.

Best story I've heard in a while! A buddy of mine has an SVT Contour with a HUGE wing in the back and graphics which makes it look like a Civic. What a dope.

LOL, one of the best kill stories in a long time! "Quality is job 1" By the way, you must have a really great friend to let you drive around in his car for so long.

hahaha

The SVT's look nice and are kinda quick (for that car).
My best friend's, cousin has an SVT and he was talking crap all day. So to shut him up we went out to race. Well, by second gear I had a full car length on him, and by third he was falling way behind.

So many people underestimate the Maxima. Until they drive one, they have no idea.

A long time ago when I had my 91 integra a friend and I were heading down to beach. There was an Escort GT that was cutting in and out of traffic. I was in the fast lane and the escort was tailgating and went to the right to pass me. So I punched it and the race was on. About 5 seconds later I heard a loud bang and the escort gt was blowing serious smoke and had to pull off immediatley. Sometimes life is good.

Hey I got a great story similar to this:

My friend drives a 97 Nissan 200SX SE 5Spd. The car is very slow, but it's so damn reliabile. It never gets serviced, it rarely gets oil changes. Well we've taken this thing offroading many times, and drive the crap out of it. It bounces off the revlimiter on an hourly basis. Anyways right by my school there are these train tracks that pass through this road. The tracks are elevated so it's a small hump (about 4 vertical feet and 10 lateral feet). You can catch mad air off this if you hit it going fast enough (60+MPH). We launch the 200SX everytime we drive this road. The car gets airborne slams against the ground. Usually 2-3 shocks bottom out, the exhaust hits the ground, but the car keeps going. From all this abuse the car is perfectly fine except one rear strut squeaks now.

Anyways, my friend borrowed his aunt's 5spd SVT Contour. I was surprised how quick it was. It seems almost as fast as my Maxima. Regardless we decided to launch it (well my friend did at least). The car got good airborne, slammed against the ground some mad sparks behind us. Well after that the engine started making funny noises. When you rev it starts clacking. Well my friend was concerned for about 5 minutes than stopped caring. He started driving it hard and at about 6000 RPM the whole car siezed up and started choking like it ran out of fuel. Then he somewhat calmly drove it to a mechanic who said it's definately a powertrain problem. So it's at the Ford dealer where they're ripping the block and head apart to fix the problem.

My friend and I are sold on Nissan now. We're still not launching my Maxima because I care too much about it, but the 200SX has been through it all and is still kicking. This Ford with the duratec got pretty messed up from what is pretty routine for the Nissan.

Stories like this make me *Happy*

*******, I hate American cars. Please, post more stories like this one. I like hearing about the sufferings of owners of American cars, especially those who talk about how European and Japanese engineering couldn't touch American. Gimme a break!

If your located on the east maybe we can meet up and whatnot. Exchange some info.

Where are you located? Most people would be willing to a friendly race. Besides it's always cool to meet people with other cars. Do you have any mods?

I not trying to start anything here. It just sounds like a made up story. Soory about the maxima. www.modularV8.com Click on event coverage and smackdown II and you can see my 14 sec run. Now a days you can`t believe anything. Over on my board, we went through a lot of stuff with trolls. I not trying to be a troll, just a fellow car owner talking cars. I am from Michigan. Where are you from?

No, bro, I wasn't trying to start anything either, just being a smartass -- sorry.
I'm in Pittsburgh, and it seems like there's only a handful of folks here. Everyone's in SoCal or New England or Long Island.

People on this board are real good, but there are the few newbies that are harsh.
People here are understanding, unless you start spewing the sh*t. Like some people on this board have been know to do (such as fake signitures). As long as you can back up hard to believe claims.

I don't think you're time claim is hard to believe. Lot's of people here run that time or even better. If you had a ford aspire, then we might not believe you

ahhahaha, I had to laugh when I read this. you guys read but have no proof to back it up. why dont you check car and driver or something find out what the specs of the two cars are and you will realize that the svt and the maxima is a very close race. and what the magazine says is that you guys who have the new maxima have 222hp. now the svt has 205hp.also is about 8k cheaper then the maxima with all the same stuff leather, power everything. etc.. so for 8k less I get american with 12hp less. hmm.. doesnt take an american to figure that is a good deal. Now 1/4 times lets see car and driver says svt does 1/4 in 15.5, I dont know what the maxima does in 1/4 but i am sure it is right around there. this kill that you are talking about, is probally cause he didnt want to race a peace of **** 2 times in a row. granted maxima's are nice cars besides the ugly *** back end. but step out of your dream world when you want to post a story. or check out specsto make sure you wont look stupid.

Hey SVT2000 I guess this is one of those trolls you were talking about. Maxima Killer? Where are you located? I'm sure we can easily find someone to take you up for a challenge. If you're east coast, I'll even do it and I'm not even one of the faster maximas.

Just so you know, I've raced an SVT and it was close, but when I hit third I pulled a full length on my friend (Yes, my friend has an SVT, that's why I never bashed it)

As for the price difference, when was the last time the contour won an award? Hmmm maxima seems to win awards all the time for the best V6 engine, or the best in it's class. That's where the price goes....quality!!

You get what you pay for.

That 8k will be wisely saved for towing costs and car washes from the Maxima dust all over your front end.

Heh.

I'm almost scared

I was almost scared for a full second when I read your very informing specs. Where do you people come from when someone makes a post about beating a certain car does it send an email to every ford, pontiac, honda, toyota, etc board on the the internet that tells you when a certain car has beaten one of yours. I could care less that the contour is 8k less. I always say you get what you pay for. I say come back in five years and tell me how your car runs then. Unless you have some way of proving that you car is better than ours dont waste your time signing up.

First off I never said the car burned all I said is a big white puff of smoke came from under the hood. The I sawa tow truck picking the car up for all I care a hose might ave blown off the inferior car. You know that car you raced in the video thats how slow you'll be in five years and a nissan will still be pulling hard with no problems.

Ok. See back up to a statement, I like that.
But as you can see, the maxima engine is right there too. From what I read it seems like the Ford engineers tweaked aspects of the intake and exhaust to get the extra horsepower, whereas the maxima isn't.

How much do aftermarket modifications effect an already tweaked car? I mean you can add an intake and Y-pipe to a maxima for about $500 and get another 20hp. What type of gains can SVT owners get? (This is a question, not a flame. I really curious cause my friend might be interested)

Funny thing about that is those engines are in the 95-96's. Not the SVT's. The SVT Contour didn't come out until 98. Sorry to spoil your fun.

I'm almost certain they had it fixed then

Well I'm almost certain then that ford had it fixed. They are so good about that kind of stuff. I mean lets think about it here do you think they fixed the problem. They fixed that firestone problem so quickly (I think that nice peice of equipment explorer killed a few people). How manys years again was it that they put that tire on the explorer. You must be that guy that had an integra before your contour.
