CV Joints replacement-GRRRRR! and installation

So i was at Les Schwab today getting my wheels aligned...
When everything went wrong. First i found out my rear driver side tire has a nail in it and its not leaking air but it could blow at any time, so on went the spare. Then it appears i need two new cv joint axels and boots. If you guys know anything about installing these and where i can get it would be appreciated. How hard is the install? If you have had this done how much did you pay? Thanks guys

The CV joint replacement isn't that hard. Make sure to just replace the entire axle and don't bother just fixing the boot. It isn't too bad, just take out the axle and that's it. There might be a how to for this.

If the CV boot blew recently, he can just replace the boot and not the whole axle. But if that ish is clicking and stuff.....then replace the whoe half shaft.

i replaced my both cv boot on my passanger side its time consuming and the grease is messy. cost like 25 bux for 2 cv boots. Just recently my drivers side boot started leaking so i bought a new axle which is like 80 bux at pep boys and saved myself the headache.

Just buy the whole axle and save yourself the trouble, or if you can find someplace to rebuild yours that is usually the best quality. It is not a difficult job to do, but getting the old ones out can be a ***** sometimes.

Do this job yourself = < 200$
Get it done by a garage = 600$

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/401 , but I also suggest just getting a rebuilt axle instead of doing the joint and boot. they are pretty cheap from autozone.

yah pretty cheap from autozone or pep boys. $70 or less. lifetime warranty too.

The only problem I had getting them out was that PITA retainer clip...the ring/clip that holds the axle in place. The passenger one came out easily. The driver side...I had to yank out the old one, and shove the new one in....tho I was eager to get goin on a 1700 mile trip.

the only problem I had was the support bracket that holds the support bearing assembly on the passenger side axle, I ended up taking the bracket off with the axle and beating the crap out of it with a 5 lb sledge.
