Magnaflow Dilemma

Just had a Magnaflow installed and I gotta say, it does have a deep growl. But with my Budget Y pipe and otherwise stock exhaust it drones at around 1800 rpm sumpin fierce. I wouldnt mind so much, but I'm planning on selling the car soon, and I'm afraid the prospective buyer will be offended by the resonance. It does sound mean, but........

I researched the solution on the org, at a time when the search engine did work, but I didn't find a cost effective answer. The shop wants me to be happy with the setup I drive away with, and they are good and honest, I believe. I think they feel obligated because they talked me out of installing my $45 Dynomax super turbo, (said they couldn't weld hangers onto the rolled edge casing without fear of burnthru). For $158 they set me up with the Magnaflow, (a good deal, I think), but its a bit too aggressive even for a Max. Now they are suggesting mounting a Dynomax or a larger resonator. Funny, before they wouldn't do the Dyno, s'pose I'll get a refund if they did that...yeah right.

To my question....Ive read that the stock resonator is about as good at quieting as anything else I could add. I don't really want to dump any more into a car I'm selling anyway, hence the dillema...

Any advice? I've already contemplated killing myself, (with assistance from my wife), so don't suggest that.

For $158 you could've gotten a stock 5th gen muffler and be better off.

Where? I was quoted $170 for a stock 99 and JRNissan has the 5th gen for $220 ish with discount. anyway, yes in hindsight I would have gotten a stock muffler, but my cheap fix to make my car sellable escalated into this. I was quoted $110 to install a muffler, that may burn thru during the install, or $140 for a Magnaflow, which escalated to $158 with tip (oh yeah, he forgot to add that in the price!).

The problem with where I am and how I got here is that the shop neglected to mention that the Mag would be horrendously louder than the oem or the dynomax super turbo I had purchased. Hindsight is always 20-20 and even reputable shops will stick you for more once the car is apart.
