97 Starter?

Just had a starter put in at Pepboys on 12/23. Now Im getting REAL rough starts and the dealer tells me that it is the starter that Pepboys just put in. They say that unless I get a OEM starter I will keep burning through the Pepboys generic ones. Because they are POS. Anyone got any insight on this?

Define ROUGH START: idle or hard to start?
The starter either cranks the engine or it doesn't...

Rough as in it cranks everytime but it does'nt start smoothly .....at all. It kinda coughs and almost kicks over sometimes and then it will start on the next crank. I normally am skeptical of the dealers cause they rape you.....but the mechanic listend to it and immediatley said.. "is that an aftermarket starter?" and I was like yeah and he was like "thats the problem". And this was the actual mechanic not the greasy *** sales mangr. So I tend to believe him. But IDK.

What doesn't START? does the starter making a noise? Does it feel like the batterys died when you crank it??

Or does it crank fine and the engine doesn't turn over... if it CRANKS like its supposed to its not the starter, the starter is doing its job, cranking the engine, if the engine doesn't start its not the starters fault...

I'm in the same boat as you Pearl97. The car cranks fine but doesn't turn over. If you find out the reason let me know, i'm checking things and testing things to find the problem, i'll let you know if i find the problem. As sober stated earlier its not your starter..
