Need O2 sensor advice

I just took my car in to Firestone and they "think" my downstream O2 sensor is going out. They want $200 for the sensor PLUS installation. I found the sensor they said I needed (4 wire)here. Is it the right one? Does brand matter?

How difficult is installation? I'm planning on getting in on the GD for the Warpspeed Y-pipe so I could install this sensor at the same time, yes?

Your link doesn't work and why are you going to replace it if they "think" it's going bad? Just wait for the CEL to turn on because the downstream O2 sensor doesn't have anything to do with the air/fuel ratio.

why do they think your sensor is going ou t?did you get a CEL, is it giving you codes? you can do it youreslf while ypu put in the ypipe, you hae to take them out when you install the ypipe, its better tha tyou do it all at once.

Yeah, that group deal is what I meant to reference. I don't have a CEL; what is it? And I intend to replace it myself when I do the Y-pipe, if I someone'll tell me how

i think the o2 sensor should throw a code, CEL=check engline light if i understand your question correctly, you need na o2 sensor socket, its easy to replace, theres 1 on each vertical pipe that go into the engine and one on the catalytic convertor, the one closest to the front of the car provides very little clearance to change teh sensor, the seocnd one isnt as bad, and the one on the catalytic convertor is a 5 minute job. you need to know which one you have to change, so yu need to pull codes from the computer, heres the link for it, its really on top of the 4th gen forum

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=104931

this will tell you how to read the computer and check for codes

secondly you want to chagne yoru ypipe, you might as well change the O2 sensor and the pipe at once if its that sensor indeed

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...=255278&page=3

this is the instructions to change your ypipe, all of this stuff is in the FAQ's you should read it and familiarize yourself before posting, most of the most common questions are asnwered there, hope that helps

Would a Chilton manual allow me to replace the sensor? Or do I need something more specific? Do sensors that come from oxygensensors.com come with instructions?
