Power Steering ?s

I recently went on a 4600 mile trip on spring break around cali and upon getting there my power steering hose exploded and I lost all steering ability. I patched the hose using a mini-leatherman and some duct tape inside a parking garage and still had a leak but had no idea who to call on a friday afternoon at 4pm when EVERYTHING in the city closes. So I decided to drive to Sacramento from San Fran witha dry pump and expecting a new one upon reaching my destination. I got back to where I was going and I fille dthe resevour back up and drove around the block and walla! It made no more noise and worked perfectly. Damn! You gotta' love these strong a$$ cars Nissan makes...

My question is do they make or can I make an electric power steering pump?! I know we have speed assisted power steering running off the pullies and is also a very good design but I am curious if this could be advantagous to increase power and allow for a great working system too? Any help in this area will be great.

There was a thread before about someone saying he felt more power when he cut his power steering belt... but you dont want to do that. Anyway you put it, It will still use up power from the engine due to that fact its going to run under the alt. Theres a purpose why nissan did this. I wouldnt bother with changing it from the standard belt drive system to an electric power steering. Good question though but it will be a waist of money and time.
