Getting Custom Exhaust done, what is a resonator for?

Hey I am getting a new b-pipe put on my car because I went to a muffler shop and they put on a peice of crap pipe (i'm going to have fun getting them to take it back tomarrow). I was just wondering I am going to have a muffler shop custom bend a 2.5" b-pipe for my car and I want to know if i should get a resonator or not. What will this do if i do not? I am thinking about getting an aftermarket (DynoMax Super Turbo) muffler. Will this make the sound very loud (ik that muffler is supposed to be very quiet). Thx!

Get at least one resonator. It will quiet things down a bit.

I dont have a resonator, all you need is a quiet muffler. My dynomax muffler is still kinda loud with the ypipe in now, but it sounds nice. Loud isnt always bad, its just the quality of the sound that matters.

It will be unbearably and ricey loud if you don't get a resonator. I would recommend to just leave the stock resonator on there, and save yourself the extra money. They are all very similar anyway.

I hope you're saying it will be louder without the resonator.

resonator doesnt so much affect VOLUME as it does Tone and SOUND... a resonater cleans up exhaust reverberations and unclean tones, making the exhaust smooth sounding, and clean, as well as eliminating most of that ricey popping when the engine winds down. my obx has 2 resonators and is still plenty loud, and sounds MAGNIFICENT... ask any of the NE
