Help...Tachometer Issue

Tach on 1996 Maxima stays at 2K no matter what speed is. Sometimes it will jump to 4K while driviong but immediately goes back to 2K. This all started after recall work was done. Dealership says it is not something they did so repair won't be free. I checked all fuses and they are good. Could this be a speed sensor issue or some wiring problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

They just go bad.
Mine did the same thing right after I bought it. Just buy a gauge cluster off eBay or from a junkyard. You can take just the speedometer out to replace it.

My 95' does the same thing 2k sucka won't go above it. and some times at idle it like bounces (to the bass my g/f says). I doubt its our speed sensors because they only effect our speedomotors not the tac. i some1 replyed they go bad. I belive they are hooked up electricaly somewhere try to find the wire i think thats wat i am gonna do. Make sure everything it properly installed! I will keep you in reference if i fix this problem i will drop you a line no howto. peace -john
