How good is the "sport" suspension on a factory '95-99 SE?

Not trying to start a tire thread, but can you elaborate on your tire experiences at the track? I'm currently on Dunlop SP's and will change to a tire with astiffer sidewall. The ride is plush, but the handling suffers too much for this SE driver! Whats a good H-Z tire with maybe 30k tire life?

So wait, say I get H&R springs with illumina shocks/struts. Do I need some kind of mounts for the rear illuminas? What are the rear mounts for? Why only for the rear? Are stock mounts bad or something?

Sorry, but I'm a total noob when it comes to things like shocks/struts.

A huge handling improvment that I got was going to not only a great tire but also a lower profile. I went to the 225/50/15 bridgestone potenza s03 pp. Awesome tire for rain and dry. But not cheap or particularly light. For straight out acceleration I would like to try the toyo T1S next since they are about 4-5 lbs lighter per tire. I have also really liked the Firestone Firehawk FZ50 but they dont come in a 50 sidewall so they werent quite so good for autocross. But they have alot of the same technology as the S-O3 (UNI T- AQ II) and were also good rain tires.

Tirerack.com has a great resource- check the survey results for the tires that you are interested in and you can get a pretty good sense of what rocks. Also autocrossers are pretty well informed as to what tires grip the best in different conditions.

Now, % wise, how many people here with aftermarket suspension springs/struts/shocks actually have those?

I know what they do and I know what they are for, but are they really that necessary for say an already soft setup such as H&R springs paired with illuminas?

The Motivatonal mounts have nothing to do with how soft a spring is, they increase suspention travel. It doesn't matter how soft a spring is when you hit the bump stop.

Probably about 10-20% have them. Usually it's the people who really care about handling.

I'd say they are even more important when your springs are softer, due to the increased chance that you'll hit bumpstops. If I were to do it all over again, I'd still buy the motivational mounts. Personally I think it's a steal at its price, for a 1" increase in suspension travel.

I agree with that.....drewm...

PLUMMAXSE, I would recommend a tire for you with a very stiff sidewall and an almost race compound to it. Falken Azenis Rs (Z-rated) is an awesome tire. They have a weird tread, but they are excellent in wet and dry conditions. The tire patches are large and look kind of like a motorcycle tires.....you know....a crotch rocket?
Take a look at them here. See if they have them in a size that you want. Plus, free shipping!
www.tires.com

(I will be getting some of these in a couple of months. I know they are good because I have driven and ridden with my brother while he has them on his car.)
