Should I make my headlights blue

Now that I have resumed work on my Max I am thinking about adding a little flash. I was thinking about wiring my lights so they glow blue when the car is off, I did it to my VW and got a lot of positive responses. It looks like this on my VW (before some idiot caused me to take on a light poll).

I am also thinking about making my cluster blue like this:

What do you think, too ricey?

yeah I would think those headlights would make even me throw a rock through the window and steel the stereo. draws way too much attention to the car when you aren't around it.

i bet you can wire it to turn on only when you want, not all the time when its parked

You can really wire it how ever you want. I wanted them to be on when the car wasnt so that is how I wired them. It was interesting to see the reactions when I pulled into a parking lot at night and got out and my blue lights turned on. I also thought about puting red ones in my black max for a meaner look(plus with blue ones I was constantly hearing "there is a VW in the parking lot with its lights on" when I was in stores at night).

my actuall question was "what is the blue light source in those lights"

red would look badass on your black car

Those lights that stay on when your car is parked would be cool. I've seen some cars that had their lights strobe every few seconds when parked...it does attract attention tho, whether good or bad.

Heh that is the tricky part. I used 12v blue LEDs. I have seen a few kits at shops and online. Have no idea what they use but I chose 12v LEDs because they are cheap and easy.

You might want to look into your state's laws regarding external lights on cars before doing that. I know in Iowa, it's illegal to have any blue, red or green exterior, directional lighting (the neons under the chassis are fine).

I had a few cops "talk" to me one morning when I was sitting in the parking lot at work at 2am waiting for my manager. They made me prove that they couldnt be on if the car was on. Once I did that a couple of them actually wanted to know how I did it so they could do it on their personal cars.

As far as getting stuff stolen. I live in a relatively small town with a pretty low crime rate. I have never had anything stolen. I may be in denial but I doubt people are going to mess with the car in a parking lot that is attracting the most attention.

Don't do it...it's more likely that your **** will be stolen. The more appealing that you have it the more somebody else might want it for themselves.

just cause ur car looks appealing doesn't mean that people will try and steal ur ****. I have a friend wit a viper convertible and he never locks his car. we assume that nobody is gonna steal it due to the fact that it draws so much attention and people are always looking at it. My friend joe has a yellow m3 and at night the bright yellow has the officers on our campus always seem to patrol by his car, n that keeps it safe.

I plan on doing that as soon as my order of 12v leds comes in. As far as having them on all the time i agree it does attract a little to much attention but if you put a switch on it you could turn them off when you leave the car overnight or whenever your not around and still impress the ladies when you walk into 7-11

If you want tips or wanna share your method send me a pm. I would love to see pics on a max. What color, and are you going to do just the headlights or the markers too?

It's not for me but if I was to do it, I would use red lights and See if you can wire it up to your factory remote where you can turn them on and off with the dome light button. That would probably be hard but its and Idea

I actually only used on focused LED per lamp, it would have made sense to use a flood-lamp-style LED but we only had a bunch of focused ones. However I was impressed at the brightness from one LED and stopped there. You can always do em one at a time and stop when you like it. Make sure you mount your wiring to something vibration can be hell under your hood.

How much did you pay for the set because it cost me about $2.12 to do mine and about 30 minutes in labor because it was a ***** to manuver my VW lights.

$2.12? Wow, I paid around $20 a set 3 years ago on Ebay. I don't know too much about the market when it comes to those leds but the leds that I have are bigger than the ones that you get for cheap price.
OR
I could have been ripped off.

I do believe you were ripped off. The LEDs you got I gurantee are the same size as 194 bulbs and the same size I used. Almost all 12v LEDs on the net are. You also don't need the resistors those companies sell because you paid extra for 12v LEDs. I am sorry but paying anymore than about $5 is highway robbery. I got two LEDs at $.99 each and I get all my wiring and connections from a friend of mine who works at a car audio installation place.
