That's definitely not the EGR valve. The EGR valve is located below the throttle body. Trace the hoses and see if they go to the EGR. FYI - for the part you show I've never heard mine making a clicking sound.

Thanks Torgus. I already read the faq a million times and it has nothing about the EGR. There was another thread but all the links in tere are dead. Any more of your brilliant ideas?

That's the EVAP canister purge volume control valve.

The EGR is located under the throttle body... I can send you a pic, what's your email?

Hey Big D,

I've got the same problem you're describing from that part in your picture...kind of a clicking and rattling when I turn the key to the 'on' position (engine not running). I had a trouble code show up last month for a related component but I cleared it and it hasn't come back. Dunno if it's supposed to make those noises.

Are you having any other drivability problems? PM me if you want...

Yes, that's completely normal. Not sure exactly, but it has to do with your idle!

It's a steady click when the car warms up, every second or so. When the car is just turned on, it has this grinding kind of noise.

Actually, it was 0704 - EVAP system pressure sensor. Pulled everything apart back at the purge canister (have a CA Max) and bench tested everything...all worked fine. Reset the code and nothing has tripped since.

I wonder if a messed up purge volume control valve (like in the picture) would set off a code like that. I can't believe that valve is supposed to click/grind/rattle like that.

when i said RTFM. f doesn't stand for 'read the faq moron' it stands for 'Read the ****ing manual' in this case that would be the haynes or equivilent.
