I installed a cone air intake and I didn't plug back the temperature sensor that goes into the stock air cleaner back and the new cone intake doesn't come with the adapter that I can plug the hardness.
I threw the original stock airbox away. Now I received the error code 04 01 : Intake Air Temp Sensor and my CEL is on.
How would I fix this? I called my local dealer and asked for the new sensor and they charge $60. Is there an alternative way of fixing this?

get a resistor from radio shack, I dont know the resistance value, but the right one will get rid of the code.

 

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing. But I don't know what registor value I should get. Anyone else know?
I checked on Ebay and saw some of the intake boost sensor. They use 130 ohms. Is it safe for me to get the same registor value at Radio Shack?
When I put it in, does it matter which way it goes (positive or negative)?

 

mine at 44* was 2000 ohms and as i warmed it up the ohms went down. there is no wrong way to intall the resistor, as long as it connects the two wires together.

 

so you unplugged the IAT sensor from the harness and you thought the new intake had a special plug for the harness?
AND on top of that you threw out the stock airbox with the IAT sensor still plugged in? LOL now you have to go to a junkyard and get a new IAT sensor. or go to the dealer bend over and pay him to "give you a new one"

if you go with the resistor, your car will always think very cold air is coming in through the intake when it's most probably not, resulting in more fuel consumption and bad Miles Per Gallon stats, and on top of that gas prices will be going up in the next few months.

i hope you learn your lesson and never throw out parts until the whole project is done and testing is completely finished.

maybe post in the classifieds if somebody has an IAT sensor for your maxima's year?

 

Why would you want to replace it? If you still have your sensor just plug it into the connector and tie it something near the intake. Unless you damaged it it will still work fine. It does absolutely nothing except throw code. I drove with it extended to right behind the grill and nothing changed.

 

What are some of the signs you will see other than the CEL? I notice the area where I put my feet is considerably hot when I drive 80mphs. Could this be the cause when the IAT sensor went bad? I notice it on the same day when I get my CEL.
