Hi, I have a 98 GXE and I find that the steering is very easy to turn, even at highway speeds.
Is there a way to lower the sensibility of the power steering?
What happens if you remove the power steering pump belt?

Then you will have no power assist. You can try this, as the power steering belt does not drive any other accessory. I predict you won't like it.

Will removing the belt affect the Idle rpm on the engine?

It shouldn't. The Engine Control Module (the computer) regulates the idle speed by sending signals to the Idle Air Control Valve - Auxiliary Air Control valve. It adjusts to changes in load such as A/C on or off.

I haven't actually taken a look at it, so maybe this is a stupid question, but is it possible to use a larger pulley on the power steering pump, to turn it more slowly and perhaps just reduce boost, not eliminate it?

Humm, sounds like a good idea, what do you think Martin?

on the surface it's an appealing idea but relies on the assumption that the amount of power assist is directly proportional to pump speed. I doubt it's that simple...
