Does anyone know how important the catalytic converter ground strap is? The strap had seized itself onto the nut holding my y-pipe to the converter and it broke when we removed the nut. I'm wondering if I have to replace the strap now or if I can leave it alone. The car appears to run normally and I don't see any error lights popping up.

Well I believe it helps w/ the electrical ground. Most of the engine is grounded w/ the rubber mounts so it's probably here to help w/ the battery ground etc... If you can't make that one work, you could probably just make another. They have them at auto supply stores etc.. You could also just make one w/ 2-10 AWG wire and a couple of connectors.
