I can't seem to get the screws to budge. Tried every screw driver I own. What next?

 

well if you can't get the hose clamps off, then your only option would be to cut the hoses and put some new clamps on there. be careful because there isn't much slack to begin with so cutting off 1/2" from each tube will make it more difficult to work down there.

 

use some PB blaster, let it soak in 5 mins, hit it with some more, then let that soak in for 10 mins or so, hopefully will loosen it up for ya

 

just as a warning there is pressure built up in the lines goin in and out of the filter, and by you cutting these will cause lots of gas to shoot all over and make a nasty mess. I suggest you get something to pentrate the screws and do it that way.

the screws are also bolds, use a socket wrench on those and they will unscrew in a snap. Oh yea, check the for sale section on LIMaximas.com

 

chances are the rubber hoses wont come off either. take a pair of pliers and clamp the hose LIGHTLY over where the hoseclamps are (before you loosened them) and twist the hose. this should break it loose so that they will come off relatively easily.

 

i just changed mine today and it came off pretty easie, it took me about 1/2 hour

 

removing the air filter box will give more room to work around the fuel filter

 

is it necessary to remove the air filter box though? I am probably going to be doing this Saturday.

No. But it helps a lot. Unless you have 2 elbows in your arms.
Only takes 10 minutes. A well invested 10 minutes. Easier than it looks. Start by removing the filter box top, the filter, and the retaining screws and wires to be removed and disconnected will all be in sight.
