maybe... the org should have it where they have to wait a week or so to post. that would force them to read around instead of creating an account to post a thread asking how to bolt up neons around their steering wheel... ???

I was/am kinda still a newbie on a lot of things... But I read a lot on here... and that's what all others need to do as well... go ahead and learn all the posts like you were there when they started.

How about this one:

Any time someone asks a question that's in the stickies, their account gets locked so they can only see the stickies and THE QUIZ THREAD.

Only when they've answered their own question in 'the quiz thread' do they get their regular .org privileges reinstated.

I dunno, how many posts have I made, 2k or so? I've been around since the late 90's, in the days of "ANDY,", "RUSS," so on and so forth. So I think I can say this forum is objectively not very good compared to back then. As you can see, most if not all of those people are nonexistent, they've moved on to Supra Turbos, 350Z's, 300ZX's, German cars, whatever, etc.

There is no rhyme nor reason as to why "how much money does this cost" is an ok post, but "my Maxima is blah blah blah" is a deleted thread. A forum should be like a business, treated objectively.

I attempt to respond when I see bad answers to a good question, because I think there just may be a 17 yr. old at the other end who isn't stupid, but maybe inexperienced. So why not provide an earnest response to a naive question?

As far as being a social forum, I would say that maxima.org is good. It's just not a place to go for technical support or objectivity. We've all seen the posts--if you don't agree that the Maxima is the greatest car ever mfg. by man, why are you here anyway. Uh, maybe because I happen to own one? Just to be fair, check out some of the other car forums and you'll see something very different. I don't want to name drop so just take a look out there.

You know...I just thought of something. If people didn't talk about nonsensical topics...what would they talk about?

it would be okay now and then ya know, cuz your right we would have a lot LESS to talk about. but we could focus on newer mods and whatnot... or atleast save some space on the forum...

I have learned a lot from all of you. For that I am grateful. Org has fuelled a new hobby. Org is a huge part of why after selling my 98 Max, I turned around and bought a 99 one.
As far as searching goes, I wish there were easier ways to go about it. For example being able to search for a keyword in thread title alone. (Maybe there is and I just don't know about it, oops).
I have one thing to say to say to the vets. Be patient with the noobs. You were one at some point. Yes it would be lovely if they did a thorough search before asking, but you have been guilty of this at least once too.
Now if I could only get those ******* stickers I have been after lately it would all be perfect, lol.
Good job Kev and the mod team.

P.S. If you've been here long enough to post more than 100 times, I think it is about time to donate.

It would be nice if they ever get this server worked out so we COULD donate. I'm trying to be patient, but it is taking a d**n long time!

Like someone said earlier, I too cannot go a day without looking at the forum. My gf gets mad when I look at it now. She's always like "is that homework?" I guess it is homework to me. Though my car looks like crap compared to others on the org and is pretty much stock except for clear corners, I love my car. I must agree that there are tons of useless threads. There are too many vague thread subjects like "shaking" and "NEED HELP." Be more specific with the problem/comments in the subject line so we don't have to read useless threads We all benefit from this forum so I guess a donation isn't asking much.
And quit with the street racing threads. We don't want to see a thread saying "I killed someone because I was ignorant and street racing in my max." Take it to the tracks.

JDM your 15 with a 98 max and no job?? Parent's car?

I know that I have not posted much, but I have been on this forum for the past few years. I feel that reading and researching is a lot better than just posting your opinions and guesses on things you dont even know about. Over the past few years, it has been getting harder to find good information. More and More people post things such as; how good does my car look?, what is better, intake or y pipe?, just installed my intake... , I have 1000 bucks to burn what to buy? who has the best car? etc. etc.
This stuff is totally useless. Im not against being a newbie cause ive read so much stuff on here and still feel like a newbie, its just that stuff should be posted somewhere else.

I also go onto other forums dealing with cars such as miatas, galant VR4s, even SHOs. Those forums alot more helpful, alot more technical, and more importantly know what they are talking about. Im not sayin there are not any people on this forum that know alot of stuff, its just there are about 5times more people who just think they know. Other forums simply just dont accept useless posts like this forum does(nor do the members).

Lately i have just been completely avoiding the 4th generation forum and looking at the Turbo/Supercharger section. Although i dont have turbo, the people on this section tend to be a lot more innovative and know alot more about the maxima. Congrats to these people that bring the maxima to the next level.

In my opinion, I think the search fuction should be enabled to all. When the search was enabled, it was the greatest thing ever. Yea, I know it hogs alot of bandwith but so does people who's posts are totally useless. If the search was enabled to all if would eliminate stupid and repetitive posts but more importantly, give the members the ability to educate themselves. This would make a more educated forum and make everyone a little less newbie.

This is a great forum, but it is definately not as good as it used to be.

People didn't use the search function when it did work. I remember constantly reading posts that consisted of:

Click here to find the answers to all of your questions.

This is a GREAT comment and very true. However, there are plenty of other forums out there running on similar hardware that out-perform this forum. It's all about which forum software you get. PHP is awesome, but just like anything else, if the coding is inefficient, it makes your forum inefficient. I think our hardware is probably okay for the amount of hits we get, but the forum software just can't keep up. I'm no expert on which software is best, but it may be time to search for new software ...

Don't get me wrong, i LOVE having this forum available, but it's definitely crippled when the search feature isn't working.

I've always thought this forum was very useful and provided valuable information to all of us.

Like many others, I do wish the search feature would work. When I need to look something up, I find myself spending an hour reading through post and after post. If the search function was operational, I could probably find what I needed in 5 minutes, thus spending alot less time on server.

IMO, part of the slow server problem is caused by so many of us on here at one time. With the search working, I believe the server could be faster because there would be fewer logged in. Just a thought.
