Recommend me a QUIET muffler

Since I cant use this Search feature I am forced to ask.

I really need a new aftermarket muffler for my 97 Max. Giant chunks of metal are hanging of it....anyway, I want a GReddy but I am afraid it will be too loud. I have heard a GReddy on a 5th gen but its been a while. Does Greddy make a quiet exhaust? Or is this an impossiblity with a large outlet tip?

1. Is there a list somewhere that has all aftermarket mufflers for the Max?

2. Which one is the least loud but still looks good?

Thanks,

Nick

Here ya go bud MaxMods all the info you could possibly need

I went with the dynomax muff just because it was only $42 and plus it sounded better than the Magnaflow (at least from the soundclips it did).

If you have a y-pipe or plan to get one your only options are the stock 4th or 5th gen mufflers. ANYTHING else WILL be loud with the y-pipe.

Just bought mine today! I went to their site and listened to the clips, sounds really quiet at WOT... not raspy or anything. I hope it's for real!

Ha, I really hope you're kidding. My car sets off alarms with the WS and a y. Even at low speeds its loud but throaty loud. Still, pretty loud though.

Since nobody was willing to give me any info in my other post, I'm gonna go ahead and ***** this one (sorry sonzofgod :-(

I got in on the WSP GD with the Hiflo cat and just bought a Dynomax SuperTurbo (17748) universal. How much do you all think it would cost at a muffler shop for them to make me a bpipe. Is the intermediate the bpipe? And is it actually two pipes or one?

Also, should I just leave the resonator in or what, how much louder is it without it? I'm looking for that deep throaty sound not ricer. And what's fair pricewise for an install? Since I'm gonna be there getting them to make the pipe and fit the dynomax I might as well have them install it.

I wanted to do the install myself, but i dont have a welding machine or anything and this looks like the cheapest route to go (at least ive been told)

SORRY for all the ?s but I don't know anything about exhaust.

SORRY again for postwhoring sonzofgod!

Thanks,
drew

I'm gonna go with D on this one. I have an apexi and budget combo. This combo still scares little kids as I pass them. If this isn't loud i'm afriad of what you guys consider loud!

Do you have a resonator? (wandering if one of you does and the other not as the explanation of your disagreement??

I side w/ getting a 5th gen muffler. If u dont like rice or annoying exhaust systems the Greddy SP, Apexi, OBX, and Magnaflow are not for u. Aftermarket exhaust systems=more noise. Its a fact of the matter. Get full exhaust mods cept the muffler if u wanna have speed minus the rice. Go w/ the 5th gen. It'll be the cheapest too if u find a nice used one.

Thanks for all the info guys. I have a stock exhaust set up throughout. I will check out the Maxmods link. I really hate to drop $600 for the greddy. I would like to spend no more than $300. Either for a cat-back or just the muffler...

Yeah, it's sitting on my bedroom floor just begging to be put on. I'm still waiting on my WSP Y and cat. I'm gonna put those on myself and then take the muffler to a exhaust shop and have them make me a custom 2.5" bpipe and mount the muffler. I will post sound clips as soon as I get it on. Probably middle or end of next week.
