Anyone Familiar With The NVIS System?

Anybody familiar with the NVIS found on the 99s? I've got a few questions...

What components make it up? I assume there is something in/near the ignition cylinder that actually reads the signal off the chip in the key. From there, where does it connect to? The Body Control Module, the ECU, or a completely different control device? How does it actually turn off the car? Cut power to the fuel pump? Send a signal to the ECU to not let the car start?
