No Power
No Power
I need help, I have a 1999 maxima that I have owned for 3 years in that time 4 times I have left the car for over 36 hours without starting it and the next day when it starts it spluters and has no power. If I drive it around the block and then leave it for a few hours it works fine. The Nissan mechanic says that it is coils but he can not find that problem when the car is going good. Any ideas , I live in Sydney Australia and they are not a common car here.

What kind of Gas do you use? Have you ever had Throttle body cleaned out? Have you done Fuel Injector cleaning? Do you have Check engine Light?

Standard gas, You mean like 87 Octane? The recommended gas for our car is 93 octane.

do u have a high-wattage stereo system? It could be either the alternator or the battery. 4th gen alternators are notorious for blowing out. There was even a recall for 98 Max alternators. Check ur electrical system first.

How many miles do you have?
99s have a problem with the coil packs. Since the coil packs are dying and not completely dead, they won't throw a code. A lot of dealers tell you to replace all of them, but that's expensive.
Some people have waited until the car threw a misfire code. Here's what others have done: start the car and open your hood. Unplug your coil packs ONE BY ONE and see if it changes the idle. I think a bad coil will NOT cause the idle to change (since your car is already running on 1 less cylinder). Do this after you've left the car off for 3 days
If you can find someone else with a Maxima, ask them if you can swap their coil packs into your car and see if it still does the same thing
