I thought ide do a little math in excel to see how much it costed (is costed a real word?) me to drive my maxima for 50000 miles (2.5 years).......... here it is.........

All i got to say is i love my max even with close to 160000 miles on it, it just keeps getting better and better!

broaner22 - Holy S***!!!! That's the biggest parts list I've ever seen! Man, that's some excellent logging/recording skills you have there.

 

Sorry it didn't turn out very well. I have it in Excell and its very well organized and color coded. Maintenance is purple, Oil Change is yellow, Performance Mods are red, Sound is dark green, and so on. I also have the prices in each specific category so at any time I can see exactly how much I've spent in a certain area. Right now Sound is much higher than anything else but Handling and Performance are coming up. Next big handling mod is brake project including R4-S, slotted, SS lines, and motul fluid. Next performance mod is ECU or 5Spd still debating. The later requires for my auto to blow for my mom to approve.

Cars are expensive, especially when looking at depreciation, insurance and repairs. Even a few years of gas can start approaching the purchase price a 5000 dollar maxima. And it's tough for teens with high insurance and little income. But, when we start making some money- 50K miles probably would take 3-4 years of driving. And 3-4 years of income could be some good money to pay the bills.

 

If you don't count mods the cost of mine has to be the least. 1997 ~90K Km's. Oil change costs $500 for the lifetime of the car from the dealer. 0 problems.
The only thing you can count is the 2 cheapo tires we had to replace.

Edit: Whoops forgot maintainence. 60K tune up. Brake pads. I'm thinking the KS might go soon as most ppl have those go at some time or another.

hah i'm pretty sure that it was the original fuel filter when i changed it at about 140,000 miles. i did notice a bit of an increase in fuel efficiency and overall performance though!

 

I said it is not complete because the records have not been kept. This was at the time that my mom was the driver. I'm not saying that I've spent $45K. I'm saying thats how much the max has cost+about $5K for the missing stuff(Rear torsion bar, gas, etc...) If you look, I got the car at 114K and since then it has had oil changes every 3-3.5K. Also, I'm very much doubting that my dad paid in cash.

The only thing I would say is it should be $5,000 higher. You shouldn't reduce your total expenses by $5K because of two big insurance claims. Those simply brought your damaged car back to it's pre accident condition. It didn't repay you for expenses you put out for the car.

 

95MAXIMASE, you also have to take into account the depreciation that your car takes on over that 2.5 year span. That is where this becomes tricky, but whatever you paid a few years ago, and then whatever it is worth now, you have to use that in your equation.

I don't have the breakdown with me right now, but I figured all this up to.
I think you are right on with your avg cost per mile to operate your max. Mine is right at about $.20/mile, and that is good. That means when I run around for work and they reimburse me at $.37/mile, I come out earning money.

Anyway, It seems like you ought to have a better cost per mile than me because you get way better gas mileage than I do. I mean, I only get like 20.5 avg mpg, and I still got $.20.

 

well since i included the purchase of the vehicle $6500 into the equation that amounts to a 100% depreciation, if i sold the car was for 0$. but whatever i could sell the car for right now would be subtracted from the expenses, i didnt figure this in so my cost per mile is actually lower.

Well actually i repaired the car to get it operable, im living with a wrinkled hood, and messed up drivers side quarter panel. so i really did have a net gain of $5,000 for the car after i paid to make it operable once again (the checks were over 6000 combined). Plus my insurance doesnt know about me getting run off the road so my insurance wont go higher, and hitting a dear they said they cant raise your rates unless you hit too many (whatever that means). so i think my calculations are the best that i could do,i unfortunately do drive a less than mint max. but hey- it looks a little meaner!
