EGR flow error.

EGR flow error, is the error code I got when I rented a diagnostic tool from Autozone today. It was something like a P0400 error code that was displayed on the screen? Does anyone know what I may be able to do to remidy this problem? I have tried pulling the codes using the manual method but have not been able to get a clear diagnosis of what the problem was with my car. Now after the CEL has come on for the 5th time in a row after checking and resetting the CEL I decided to try to get a clearer picture of what was going wrong with my car? Does anyone know what may be causing this error code in my vehicle, I am almost positive that it is just one of the O2 sensors. Any good positive remedies would be cool.

Thanks,

Diagnostic Trouble code 0302 points to a problem with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation system. The malfunction is detected by the Engine Control Module when no EGR flow is detected under conditions which call for EGR. Possible causes include:
- The electrical harness or connectors (valve circuit open or shorted)
- The EGR valve is stuck closed
- Weak or dead battery
- The EGR passage is clogged
- Faulty EGR temperature sensor circuit
- A leak somewhere in the exhaust system

The EGR Volume Control Valve may be tested with an ohmmeter. Disconnect the electrical connector. Looking at the connector half which is attached to the EGRVCV with the latch at the 12 o'clock position you will see two rows of three terminals. The top row is numbered 1-3, right to left. The bottom row is numbered 4-6, right to left. Measure the resistance between these terminal pairs:
2 1
2 3
5 4
5 6
... all resistance values should be 20.9-23.1 ohms at 68 degrees F.

Reconnect the EGRVCV connector halves. Turn the ignition switch ON OFF repeatedly. Verify that the EGRVCV shaft moves smoothly forward backward according to the ignition switch position.

The Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor may be tested with an ohmmeter. The specifications are ...
- at 32 degrees F, 0.68-1.11 Megohms
- at 122 degrees F, 0.09-0.12 Megohms
- at 212 degrees F, 0.017-0.024 Megohms

I DISMANTLED my entire air intake lookin for the d*** EGR valve so that I could unclog mine. My OBDII reader said I have a massive EGR flow malfunction, and I couldnt even find the thing!!! Can sum1 point out where that thing is? What exactly does it look like, the stealership said that they are different on a 95-96. So what does the 99's look like?

O hauna means family!

I was looking earlier today so I took some pics for you.

Here's what it looks like from a Haynes manual.

Pic is takeng from the drives side fender. It's pretty much right under the tubing for the air intake.

Along with the airbag light my car has had this p0400 code for a while...seems to come on after I have used the air conditioning. Anyway I see where it is in my haynes manual but how do you open it up or dismantle it to get the carbon out....the manual doesn't really say. If someone could take pics of the 99 cause along with the airbag light the p0400 is one of the most common problems with 99's.

EGR funk.

Thanks for the overwhelming response to help me rectify this problem on my car! Along with the CEL on my 99 GXE, that just came on my car has also recently started making a kind of high pitched humming/ droning sound at cruising speed around 70-80 and it gets louder the faster I go! Any way if this is a symptom of the EGR valve it has got me a little worried as my car has never made this noise before and I don't want any adverse effects to come to my car. I am trying to make it last as long as possible.
Thanks for any friendly advice that can be deciminated to me.

I have never really had that problem with my car and I have that same code and 106k on my car. I think the mods should make a sticky for airbag lights in 99 GE cause person up the street from me has his on and I have read of about 6 or 7 ppl on here with the same problem...nissan should fix airbags for free...how the hell can they be broken if u have never gotten into an accident?? It is kinda messed up but to get back to the p0400 I kinda found something in my manual about opening the tube If you look to the right of the arrow in that pic above you need to loosen that nut and then after that u need to unscrew the screws on either side of that arrow...from there you can look at the tube (I think). Imma give that a whirl tomorrow and if it doesnt work imma keep drivin cause it has been on for almost 8 months with the same prob and nothing bad has happened....how long has ur light been on Joseph?
