I just bought a 97 SE, loaded, 5 sp. I love the car! I am having mixed feelings about the getting the stillen hi flow intake. I don't want to use the CAI. Some guys says that they are losing power at low rpm. They say the Stillen is great at high rpm. Should I go with the stillen hi flow or just use a drop in K&N filter inside the stock box? If I use the hi flow, where can I buy it cheap? Stillen wants $195+ shipping. Please help!! I am a NEW maxima owner.

Ok, get the Stillen intake. It is so worth the money. You really can tell a difference. When I got my intake on I immediately floored it thru third gear and was literally cracking up at how much faster my car had become. It also sounds really really really good, and the noise level increases(oh well). It REALLY screams after 6000 RPM. It will start to growl at about 2000 RPM w/ heavy throttle. However, if you drive normally, you wont even know it's there. It is worth it. Get it and see what it does for your car and get back to me. You'll love it.

don't buy direct though...

I'm going for the Stillen intake also... seems like every one who drops that mod has something great to say about it. Don't get directly from them though, I think they have one of the highest prices. I've seen it listed for $165 at avalonracing.net - much cheaper... I have even heard of others getting it for $159 from them. I plan on ordering from them soon.

HELLO GUYS......get the JWT intake....it's virtually IDENTICAL to the "Stealin" and it's only $110 bucks.....looks just like the Stillen...performs just like the Stillen...plus you don't get ripped off....and YES contarary to what many people who DON'T have the JWT think.....it DOES have a K&N filter...you can get it from Cattman (www.cattman.com) or Jim Wolf (www.jimwolftechnology.com).....I hope you guys see this so you can save your money!!!!!

listen to Bri - get the JWT. It's less than the Stillen but same in quality. No reason to spend more on something of equal quality.

does the JWT actually come WITH the K&N, or are you saying that there's one that fits it, but you have to get it separately?

also, how loud is the JWT? can anyone rank the main intakes from loudest to softest? i know that may be tough, considering there probably isn't anyone on here who's had several different brands, but maybe someone's heard other people's intakes. i'm really looking for the quietest one, but price is a definite factor.

The JWT DOES come with the K&N filter, just like the Stillen. If you're looking for a quiet intake DON'T go with any of them....cuz the are all loud on hard throttle acceleration only....if you drive like a sane person most of the time, you almost can't notice them though....JWT and Stillen have EXACTLY the same sound. Not sure about the PR CAI...have heard that it is just a loud, just a bit deeper. MOST of the time...the rule of thumb with with mods for engine performance is that your engine WILL be louder...agian...I say most of the time.

the best bet would be to go for the JWT because of the price, and its not like its any worse.. i only got a stillen intake cause i got it for $110, otherwise i would have got the JWT...you can also keep your eyes out on ebay or something for a good deal.. just some ideas

Thanks, I will try the intake system. I just haven't decided if I will go with the Stillen or JWT.

Justin Loyd (with Stillen intake) and I (with JWT intake) compared our intake sounds. The Stillen intake was way louder than my JWT intake. I don't know what the mechanical difference is, but I prefer the JWT as far as sound (and price).

whats the difference?

is there really a difference from buying the JWT or stillen compared tousing BrianV's mod? BrianV's mod only cost around $20 and seem to be just as effective. BTW, does anyone know why the Stillen is louder than the JWT or if BrianV's would be even louder?

Interesting... this whole time I've been shopping for the Stillen over the JWT because I wanted a K&N filter and I saw Stillen advertise their kit with it... but if they come with the same filter then I guess there is no difference. And yes, I believe BrianV's mod should be just as good, I just don't like rigging my mods with duct tape.

It baffles me as to why the Stillen would be any louder than the JWT, they are constructed EXACTLY the same way, the velocity stack pretty much the same piece...and the filters are the same size. I just don't get it. Anyway, about BrianV's mod....it won't have the smooth flow in of the Stillen and JWT becuase there is no velocity stack....it won't accelerate the air as well, therefore not making it as effective as the others. I wouldn't trust it just becuase you don't get a definite seal...and if dirt starts to get into your intake, it can REALLY **** up your engine. But that's just my opinion...kind of piece of mind.

what i cant believe is that stillen actually has their intake up for $200 on their site.. if you think about it you dont get much for that money.. it definately makes more sense to get the JWT but then again some people are stillen fanatics lol... i wouldnt spend $180 for their FSTB, instead i got one from procarparts for $50.... that extra $130 i can use for other things on my car

Yeah, I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it myself. Maybe I'll compare it to some other intakes at the meet this weekend to see if other Stillen intakes are louder.

The JWT DOES NOT come with K&N filter. JWT makes their own filters that is SIMILAR to K&N. I just called them to confirm!

Really, cuz it looks just like a K&N....uses a red oiled filter element, just like the K&N....you can clean it just like the K&N.....so it seems to me that either something is up...or it's really just a K&N filter...cuz I'm pretty sure that K&N has Trademarked that design.
