code 8, 2, crank postition sensor?

I pulled codes tonight and I got the knock sensor code (3,4). I can fix that, that is no problem. I also got the 8, 2 code which is the crank position sensor...I think this is the sensor that bolts onto the tranny, correct? I just changed the clutch and flywheel over the weekend, and the car would not start after the job and I found that I had not hooked the sensor up that goes on the tranny...so I hooked that back up and the car fired up but it seems like it is struggling to crank now. Does this sensor have some sort of external ground? I have an extra little black wire that I cannot figure out where it goes back on, it is a single wire probably around a 20 gauge that has one little tab on the inside to hook to something...anyone have a clue on this? Also I will mention that the car was having touble cranking right before the clutch job, and the car has been sitting under a cover for several months now...does anyone have thoughts on the mysterious black wire or if it sounds like my crank position sensor is shot. One last thing, I also got the 2, 8 code....what does that mean?...Thanks.

That little black wire is probably the ground lead from the crank position sensor. Go look closely at the connector for that sensor and you'll most likely see where that wire pulled out from.

The KS code may also be a result of the non-functioning CPS. Fix the crank sensor first and see if your KS code goes away.

thanks for your imput...I reset the ecu after I pulled the codes lastnight, but I had to take the max into the bodyshop this am....I will pull codes again when I get the car back this weekend. But, I am thinking that the crank sensor code was stored because I had tried to crank the car without it in...I have a feeling that one is not really blown, because after I reset the ecu the car cranked much easier (just like it used to). As far as the little black wire, I dont think it will even reach the bottom of the tranny in order to hook up to the crank sensor...the only thing I see it being long enough to connect to is the starter...and I did not see a hook up on there...any other ideas? Also does any one have a manual laying around that can tell me what code 2long, 8short means. Thanks.

The tranmission has a small tab near the rear that that ground wire plugs over. The tab is probably 3-4mm wide and sticking straight up.

the last code I was trying to figure out is a cooling fan fault code....I am guessing the black wire is the ground for the cooling fans....does anyone know where this wire goes? Thanks.
