Hello all.

First of all, I tried searching, got 354,578,214,85.25487 hits so it must still be broken. But the increase in site stability is worth the broken search (to a point).

Okay, so I changed out the security LED to a nice blue one to match the rest of the inside of my car. Well, the light went out after about 3 days. I used the same LED that I used to change the color of the window controls. The LEDs in the window controls still work fine, and look kick a$$ I might add. Is their a different LED I should have used? If so, does anyone know what type?

Thanks everyone!

Actually that helps tons. I used a 6 volt LED in my door switches and that's also what I used in the security light. I will stop by radio shack tonight and pickup the "3.something" LED.

I'll see what happens.

Thanks!

You can destroy LED's by over-voltage, but not by under.

If you put a 6V LED in a 3V circuit I would be surprised if it came on at all, if it did it would probably be very dim.

If you put a 3V LED in a 6V circuit I doubt it would have lasted 3 hours, let alone 3 days. They get real hot real fast and sometimes change color as they fail.

Get a meter and check the supplied voltage in Locked and Unlocked state to make sure it doesn't change when the system is armed.

I too changed all the door controls and Dome light to blue LED's. It's great.

I have a problem now because when I disarm the system and open the door I'm only getting a Dim blue LED, I don't get full bright unless I manually move the switch to ON. Anybody else solve this issue already

I went to Radio Shack and bought a (different than my original LED) Blue LED (5mm, 3.7 volt, 20mA, 2600mcd) PN: 276-316. Installed it and the light came back on and looks GREAT! It's much brighter and better looking than the others that I used in the doors. I think the door ones were too high voltage for the low voltage security LED. It's been blinking and flashing all night (door was open while install my new FSTB, woo hoo).

Hopefully it will not go out again.

If you guys have a Radio Shack.com around your area, they have great looking super bright blue leds. Radio Shack.com is different than regular Radio Shack by the part numbers and by actual parts. I just changed all my interior lights (window switches, a/c, dome, etc) to super bright blue, looks phat. If you want, I will try to get the number for ya'll. Later.

Easy!

Pop the little black security box out of the dash. You will need to disconnect it from the wire harness (don't let the harness fall back into the hole).

Next, pry (carefully) open the little clips that hold the "face" of the security box on. You should now have two pieces. On mine their was this little gray rubber thing that held the bulb onto the positive and negative terminals. Remove that little thing.

Next, figure out which side of this connecter is positive and which is negative. To do this I hooked the socket back into the harness and touched a new LED to each side until I found out which way worked, then I marked it with a perm. marker.

I found it impossible to reuse the little gray rubber thing. I argued with it for a while then gave up. I just soldered the new LED on.

Put everything back together, open the door, pull the key and...

BLINK . . . BLINK . . . BLINK . . . BLINK . . .
