broken tranny update

i got my max into a shop cause my exedy clutch came in(stock replacement not stage 1) tranny shop says i have a broken axel bracket.. he hasnt opened up the tranny yet to see if there is any internal damge..

what do u guys think would be a good price quote on replacing the axel bracket and installing the clutch and refinish the flywheel..??

will a broken axel braket most likely mean internal tranny stuff got jacked up too? i hope not..

That axle bracket/bearing is around $110 part new from nissan. How the hell did that break? its thick solid steel. Depends how broken it is, if its cracked then it might cause the axle to wobble a bit and possibly cause tranny fluid to leak or damage the differential seals(which is good to change anyways whenever you do axle work)

What part are they calling the 'axle bracket'? Do you have any pics?

I think he is referring to the bracket that holds the passenger side axle after the first joint and before the second one. If that is the case how the **** did that break?

yeah..the passenger side bracket that is the midpoint that holds the axel to the wheels.. i have no idea how it broke.. but it did.. the whole thick steel picce just completly broke off its mount. tranny guy said hes never seen it before on a nissan. my passenger side axel is loose and wobbling.. he quoted me 130 for the part. 80 on labor..200 for the clutch install and 40 to resurface the flywheel.. whatcha guys think of those prices?

130 bracket
80 labor on installign the bracket
200 clutch install
40 flywheel resurface

450 total.. is that bad?

I would assume you need a new driveaxle as well because that first joint is sensitive and if it was hanging and wobbling then it is most likely damaged. If you think it is ok just make sure it is before they put everything back together and you are charged more labor to fix it again.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!
I thought I was the only one. Same thing happened to me at Christmas time. My axle bracket broke on Christmas eve (althought I didn't know what was wrong). My car would not go in to gear. I was sure that my tranny was shot. After two mechanics, I found out the axle bracket was broken. I got it replaced and everthing works fine.

I have no idea how mine broke either.

Holy hell!

I'd love to know how much off-roading it took to break that thing!

$450 for all that? Damn, that's a great price; is he a friend of yours? Just make sure he knows what he's doing.

How bad was the bracket? Was the axle hanging by it's own weight, or was the bracket still supporting it?

completely brokenits shaped kinda like a horse shoe..both mounting ends had completly broken off.. only things supporting it was the tranny and the other end at the wheel.. the extra weight of the bracket hanging on it didnt help too much either.

the car is dropped a little lower than sprints in the front.. does that have anythign to do with why it broke?
