whoo hoo hesitation issues are all gone now
whoo hoo hesitation issues are all gone now
So I have had this ever increasing issue of hesitation issues from about 3k-6500 it was so annoying. If you gave it slight throttle you could just feel it hesitating. So I replaced the injectors thinking one might be bad.............nope didnt fix it. Long story short it was the knock sensor..................man this baby pulls hard now! whoooooooooo hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo so happy. Thanks to slizan99 in the atl just happened to have one. Man so much better its not even funny.
Congrats on your restored power!
Do you have the cali or Fed spec?
I need to replace mine, but that Fn Swirl valve is in the way.
Does any one know the best way to change the KS on Cali spec car?
Should I just go to the dealership? and how much would they charge?

don't it feel GREAT??
I replaced my knock sensor about three weeks ago. WOW - What performance below 3k RPM. I was amazed.
Sorry - I have no experience with the CA cars. It took me about an hour replacing mine and that was because it was my first time. Try doing it yourself. The stealership will be way too much. Try a 12MM swivel socket and an extention. That is what I read on these posts and it worked like a charm. Good luck!

I was an idiot and ran some 89 octane gas in my car... hesitated like a mother from 3K and up... but now that I have some 93 in there again, it's back to where it was... Pearl99GXE... don't you just love the Cali Spec?
i wish I could just rip all the california spec crap out of my car without any problems...

Well the 99's are even easier to replace the ks on then the earlier years at least compared to my friends 98 it was. He has allot more items in the area you stick your hand.........which my car didnt. I am a fed spec 99. And yes..I drive 100 miles+ a day so I am already way over 100k miles time to replace it.
Three weeks ago I serviced my 96 Infiniti with 114,000 miles pretty well cause it had not been running correctly, hesitation mostly in the low RPM's. I did oil & filter change (synthetic for the last 30k's), Fuel Filter change (What a bloody knuckle pain in the *** that was), cleaned the throttle body, put a new K&N cone filter on (love the way it sounds when I punch it, like a growling Rottweiler), brakes, changed broken wheel studs, wrapped my lowering springs with rubber tubing cut in a spiral so they would stop being so noisey, ect...
Everything worked well, But I was still left with the hesitation, I then pulled codes from the ECU, cuz my cel went on and I had the dreaded knock sensor code along with others from cleaning my throttle body, mass air flow code ect,...
so I ordered a knock sensor off ebay($86) and it just arrived today, I can't wait to go home and wait for my car to cool off enough so I can throw this puppy on ,..
I'll give yous the update tomorrow

Hasn't anyone changed the KS on a Cali Spec?
I only run premium gas and I have over 162,000 miles.
Am I due for a KS Change?
I have a 95 SE with 123k miles.
I had this car since august, and got it from its previous and only owner.
The car runs like a beast. I can't complain a TINY bit about performance, however, Gas Milage is another story. I get about 16 MPG at best with about 75% city driving.
Who thinks Im due for a knock sensor replacement?
I run 93 octane only, regular oil changes, and everything else is up to date as well.
Thanks

the problem that pearl and my self have is with the fact that our cars are cali emissions and are also 99's we also swirl valves and a bunch of other S**t in the way. i can't really see my knock sensor and no clue where the harness is. anyway thanks for the infor
I got my knock sensor off Ebay for $90. and changed it out about a month ago on my '95 SE with about 120,000 miles on it. Definitely can feel a difference in the power. Just be careful on the connector there is a C-shaped pin holding the connector on, I didn't notice it at first and Chiltons didnt say anything about it, and it kind of cracked part of the connector, was very brittle.
the KS on the cali spec can be changed, it is just a PITA! I did it on mine last year.
All you need to do is get a swivel socket, a 12" and a 6" exstension. Fish it down there losen it up, then use a telescoping magnet to pull out the bolt. You can then use the harness wire to pull it out. Putting the new one in is the fun part, after you have the new harness and KS put on fish the KS back under were it pulled out from then use some masking tape and tape the bolt into the socket (dont over do it) line up the KS with the bolt hole and put the bolt in. Just be patient it is not hard
