Every local shop I've been to was selling coil spring compressors for $35-40, but I found these for $11!

can anyone verify that these are the right spring compressors for the job? They mentioned macpherson struts and it kind of threw me.

or u can just rent one from kregan and return it later. the cost is free.

 

Yeah I've heard about renting it from Kragen, but I went there last week and they said they charged $15 a day plus a $100 deposit! I wasn't gonna pay $30 just to have the compressor over the weekend - I wonder if it was just the local kragen or if they all started charging

 

I bought those exact compressor when I did my suspension. You can use it, but I would honestly recommend that you spend the 35-40 bucks and buy a craftsman one from Sears. The $11 dollar one was really hard to use. I spent at least an hour struggling to compress my springs with it. And then the compressor locked up on me. I was lucky that my stock spring was stuck inside the compressor and not my new springs. So I ended up picking up a $35 compressor from sears and it was 5x easier and faster to use. No struggling or anything... quality tool gets the job done faster. But its up to you, like I said it will work... might be slower and harder to do.

 

wow, thanks for the info - so Sears makes spring compressors huh? I'll look into that. Has anyone else used these cheap compressors?

 

go to autozone---you can rent them for free. You will just have to put a $40 deposit down.

 

I used the same ones from harbor freight, they worked perfectly but I used an electronic impact wrench (also from harbor freight)... I can imagine it would take forever using a regular socket wrench.
