Symptoms of Ball Joints

Just curious, what are the symtoms of bad ball joints? How easy/hard to change them, and what would the average shop charge? I'm thinking they could be my problem...

Wierd steering geometry, noises when turning.

You should get under the car and see if you can move them around with some sort of bar and if you can see play, then they need to be replaced.

Keep in mind that you can't even align the wheels unless you have a solid front end.
