or does it have to be a specific one? I know it has to be for the 4th gen.. not the 5th gen ones... but other than that, i want a replacement (mine died)

it has to be a forth gen one. And most of the seller will give you programming direction. I think you can find them in the FAQ as well.

Yours died? Did you try changing the battery???

i am buying one off of a 2001 altima and just taking my insides of my exsiting one and putting them in that remote. I broke my remote all up...and broke the key ring thing.

no specific years, as long as the remote is for a '95-'99 Max you should be fine

once you get the remote read the FAQ's on how to program it to work w/ your car

I just bought a remote from ebay a couple weeks ago. $25- is a damn good deal. Any remote for 95-99 maxima/i30 will work. The fcc codes are all the same for those years. Programming takes like one minute. Good luck..scotty
