Never-nding EGR problems - 99 Max
I have a 99' Maxima with an check engine flash code of 0302, which is EGR insufficient or excessive flow. When I removed the old EGR it was definately clogged. I have replaced the entire EGR assmbly including the valve & stepper motor, new gasket, and reset the PCM. The CEL stayed off for a few days, then came right back on. I checked the new stepper-motor on the EGR with a digital multimeter and the ohms were ok according to the haynes reference manual. The car drives ok at nominal speeds, but when I step on the gas to pass someone on the highway, the engine starts misfiring - sometimes just a little - sometimes really bad. Then the check engine light throws a cylinder misfire ECU code. It is a different cylinder every time - so I know it's not a particular ignition coil that's gone bad that is causing the misfire. I have checked plugs, ignition coils, & fuel injectors and all seem to pass self-test checks suggested in the haynes manual.
Can anyone offer suggestions on what may be causing the misfire/EGR code? The two problems must be related ?!?!? I can reset the PCM, and it will stay off for a day, but then comes right back on with the same EGR 0302 flash code. Thanks in advance for any ideas!!
