This kid at my school just got a 2001 Camaro. It's the base coupe with the 200hp V6 engine and it's an auto. I'm pretty sure it has no mods, he just got it. So anyway, i have an auto 95 SE with a jwt intake and soon to be put on WSP y-pipe, it came in today, and some 16" enkies with super sticky pirellis. I think i can beat him, what do you think, i want to embarass this kid is a couple weeks.

I've raced the 1998 camaros V6 and I've beat them. I think that they have the same power. With 5-speed, Y-pipe you should be able to take him. He might get off the line a little better, because of RWD, but by mid second gear you should be passing by him.

Hmm I'm really not fond of the automatic Maxima's gearing. I think it'll be close. Whoever gets the launch down. There's a HUGE diff from 5spd and Auto on the Maxima. More of a difference than any other car I've seen.

Well good luck, with your mods u might just get the edge.

It should be close

My wife has a 98 Camaro T-Top with a V6 and 5 speed. The cars are fast. The last magazine article I read on one had it 0-60 in 7.3 seconds.

She's constantly making snide remarks about my Maxima being an "old man's car" or "driven by somebody's mother". She's 42 and considers herself too young for a Maxima. I am 50, so I guess it's appropriate that I drive an "old man's car" *G*.

My stock 5-speed max would probably give her car a good run, but I doubt that I'd beat her. Those cars (Camaros) have tons of torque and wide tires. They could really put a hole shot on most people in a lighter, front-drive car.

In any case, once the Max hooks up, I think it would be close. It would be a pretty good race.

Re: It should be close

are you kidding me?

your car has the fastest 0 - 60 to date.. 6.6 seconds.. and that camaro gets to 7.3 with low end torque.. which means after 80 it has nothing.. your car would eat hers alive..

I have hung with v8 Camaros on the Highway with only a CAI he couldn't pull and I couldn't gain.. i was already 5 cars ahead of him.. speed kept climbing no one could pull..

a 95 5spd Maxima would eat a v6 camaro for lunch
