Trans leak from switch?

When I first bought my car, I had a mechanic do an inspection. So far I have fixed all of the things that he found except for a "trans leak from switch." Does anyone know what this means and how to replace it?? Thanks.

5spd ??
How many miles on the car ??

If its a 5spd:::
Theres a Neutral/Reverse Switch on the bottom of the trans..you cant miss it...its it leaking buy one from Nissan and also buy Trans Oil cause when you take that switch out, the oil will come with it.

Make sure the oil isnt comeing from any higher up on the car like where the axles meet the trans..could be a differential carrier bearing problem

Oh yeah...sorry I forgot to include important info.

5 speed with 116 thousand miles.

Mechanic said it isnt a big problem, a simple fix. It is just that I forgot exactly what he said was the problem, he wrote "trans leak from switch"

Thanks matt, I will look for that switch and see if I can find the leak.

Transmition leaks

I have a probe with my 96 Maxima. It has been in the shop 4 times now with a leak from the transmition. It is a five speed SE that had both drive axels and CV boots replaced. The shop keeps telling me that they have fixed it but not one day will go by and it will leak again. Could some one tell me what I should be asking them or give me some clues to pass on.

Where is the leak coming from?

Top 3:
(1) neutral position switch (driver's side, front of tranny). One of the reasons I don't pull this to drain the transmission.
(2) axle seal leak. Usually driver's side. Probable bad differential carrier bearings but also possible the seals may have been torn (ie. if axles removed at one point)
(3) motor oil leak from weep hole at very bottom of bellhousing where it meets the motor. Probable rear main seal leak.

Tough to say. It looks ominously similar to what my tranny bottom looked like with the axle seal leak (you have a lot of oil coating the underside of the inner axle area). Tranny fluid is very thick so will spread and coat the tranny bottom before you see a puddle on the ground (provided the leak is not dripping out).

I would strongly urge you to check the driver's axle for free play. If there is, that is bad. If you see oil coming out of the seal as you move the axle around, that is even worse (the end is near). If the axle is tight, look to other causes, like that neutral position switch...

Also, it may be good to degrease that whole area. Take a short drive and recheck the area. Ultimately you should see where the oil is coming from.
