knock and O2 sensors

my cel light turned on the other day and these are the codes they pulled at autozone. After reading all those knock sensor threads its finally happened to me. I was wondering though if the knock sensor causes my o2 cel light to come on or if theyre not related at all and i have to replace both?

Usually, the O2 will trip the KS code. Replace the O2 first, reset the ECU and you should be fine to go.

would a bad o2 sensor make the car feel a little boggy or less power?

yup! Usually, a bad O2 would decrease gas mileage and cutt back on power....and when it trips the KS code, it just gets worse and worse.. Fix the O2 sensor first and you should be fine.

And if you do end up having to change your knock sensor, don't pay a mechanic to do it because it's like a 15 min job if you do it yourself, but they will charge $400.

Out of curiousity, I went to my Nissan dealership and they quoted me $85 plus the sensor. Not too bad.

I went to autozone tonight and they told me the same thing. Do the o2 sensors come apart? The one that I am told that went bad is the one behind the catalytic converter. Its wire goes straight up into the undercarrage of the car. Is there a how to on replacing this one?

1. Soak the sensor in WD40 or other equivalent
2. Wait 15 minutes
3. Use a 12mm wrench to remove the existing sensor (the ratchet attachment sold at oxygensensors.com will not work with this sensor but will work on the other two sensors)
4. Trace the wiring to the undercarriage
5. Pull the wiring so the rubber sealing-dealy comes out
6. Detach the bad sensor
7. Screw in the new sensor into the cat (you may want to apply some anti-seize)
8. Attach the new sensor to the harness
9. Cram the wiring back into the hole and seal it up
10. Get a Coke; you're done.

Check your ECU for codes. If both KS and O2 are bad, replace O2, reset ECU and see if the KS code comes back. CEL won't turn on if it does though so you'll have to manually check.

If you have a 96, there might be a campaign so they dealer will fix a bunch of shiot for free. I had the same KS + Bank 1 o2 sensor code, dealer replaced all o2 sensors (for free) and the KS go bye bye along with the CEL. I dont see any better mileage though.

Bring it over here to Chicago and I'll see what I can do

I had a '95 GLE that I changed the KS on. I did it in the parking lot at work on my 15 minute break. It didn't have swirl valves.

I do have a 96 as well, but what do you mean by a campaign? I also wanted to know if a bad thermostat would cause an o2 sensor to go off, because before this my thermostat would not be consistent. It at first would be near C all the time but now since the weather is warmer it goes up to the middle but drops back down sometimes. Or would this problem be caused by something else? I'm just wondering if a bad thermostat would trigger an o2 which would then trigger the knock.

Anyone out there know if the thermostat would affect the o2 sensors at all?
