auto tranny question

I've noticed no one here really talks about trannys?? I'm having some problems with my 95 auto. It shifts real bad and slips a little, at least i think its slipping, i'll lose power sometimes while in gear and then it'll kick back in. It'd be a great help if someone could inform me a little about this transmission (i don't know a damn thing about imports btw). I'm really not interested in dropping 450 for a valve body job, and i have no idea what else i can do for my car. Does anyone make shift kits for them or something along those lines? thanks

my 96 GLE with 116k acts funny when shifting when i let it get cold. on my car warms up and i have gone through all the gears my tranny seems to shift fine. when my car is cold the tranny sticks somewhat in first and second but after a few minutes its fine. i been thinking that maybe once the tranny fluid warms up things work fine.. i don't know what the deal is with this

I get the same thing as you. Seems the tranny is really lazy in first and second. Also, I think gearing plays a role. Seems like going from 2nd to 3rd, the car accelerates strong and the gearing doesn't favor third in the lower rpm ranges and there is a slight lull...

I have a tranny cooler and it takes FOREVER for my tranny to warm up (15 minutes of driving). Once it gets warm though, everything is very smooth.

I have a 97 auto with about 150k on it right now. I experienced shiffting problems around 110k or something like that. Never had tranny fluid changed since I got the car, so I decided to do that first. Problem fixed. When is the last time you've had your transmission fluid changed? It might be a good idea to remove the whole bottom tray to the fluid resovoir and clean it up too, you may have some gunk in there.

aren't there any relatively cheap ways to improve the tranny? sorry if i sound crazy, but i'm used to american cars where you can just go and buy a nice shift kit for around 200-300 bucks. there must be something, there's obviously enough maxima enthusiasts to make some companys produce something??

If I recall correctly, there is a group deal for stage 2 valvebody's going on right now for only $350? Thats a good price. VB mods are a must for those who want more performance for their autos. You could also look into a transmission oil cooler. Lowering the temp of the oil will increase the longevity of the tranny overall.
