So I'm driving along this morning and feelin a little agrivated, when I pull up next to a new mitsubishi eclipse. I stop at the light, and it's just us, no one in front of us and no traffic. He looks over at me, smiles and revs his engine. Now I know the new eclipse is not at all slow, has a pretty good V6 under that hood, but I rev'ed back anyway, screw it, let's go. Light turns green, I get a pretty good launch, little wheelspin on my crap tires. Look to my left and what do I see... Nothing!!! Guy wimped out or something and was about 100 yards back just toolin along. What's up with that???

I agree, I thought this guy would at the very least, give me a run for my money, if not whoop me outright. I've got crappy tires that don't hook up for nothin, and a slushbox too. I have a CAI that sounds pretty damn mean, and I reved back at him to about 7 grand, but I don't think that scared him off. I know I DID NOT whoop him that bad. I don't know, sometimes I don't bother with people because I know I can whoop them and don't want to waste the gas (=$$$) Maybe he thought my car wasn't worth his time... little does he know, heh heh

ARe you trying to be sarcastic? Im sure the eclipse realized that the Max was modded and could beat the crap out of him.

The computer wont let you rev more than 6500 rpm unless you have modified ecu.

maybe my computer is broken but my car has revved higher than 6500. i let my girlfriend drive my car one day and she thought she shifted into second gear and stayed neutral. she then gassed it a little then floored it hoping it would move. i watched the tach jump over 6500 and almost started crying. it was only for a split second though.

No really, it kinda worried me the first time it did it, but it seems to do it everytime. As long as it doesn't do it in any other gears, I'm just going to leave it. I still have a full waranty for another 2 years, so I'll leave good enough alone.

Well you redline is actually at 6550 not 6500 muhahah. For the fella that said it goes up to 7000,that is true actually if you rev it in Nuetral the needle bounces at the redline looking like it goes up to 7000 rpm's.

Eclipses

The new v6 eclipses are overestimated. They are not that fast (especially compared to the last gen turbo eclipse). I think you could have taken him even if he did race.

i think the eclipse boy tried to screw up your car engine. I bet he laughed at you and left while you are launching.

I think you guys are looking too deep into this situation. He was obviously just f*cking with you, and wanted to see if you would launch. I've did that to an 850 once and the guy peeled wheels for like 3 f*cking seconds and took off.

I had one rev on me

on the highway. I was cruising about 65, not in no hurry. I noticed this 2001 Eclipse coming up from behind a little fast. Anyway when he got beside me me he slowed to match my speed and punched it then let off and then pulled up even with me again. I turned off my OD and when he heard my RPM's go up he nailed it and got about half a car on me. I floored mine and got even with him right away and steadily pulled on him till I was about 3 car lengths ahead at 100mph. Easy.

V6 Eclipses

The new V6 Eclipses are not even close to as fast as the previous turbos. A V6 eclipse has published numbers of 1/4 mile in 15.7seconds. I personally have never seen one even run that fast, 15.88 was the fastest i've seen. i beat 2 last year at battle of the imports in chicago in my modded 95 civic, R.I.P. i havent had the pleasure of tearing one to pieces in my maxima yet.
