Going from H&R to H-Tech

I'm thinking of going from my H&Rs to Tein H-Techs. The drop seems close, but I'm thinking the H-Techs are a little lower. I can't seem to find any really good pics of the H-Techs. I'm 5spd, and heard the Teins give a pretty even drop for the manuals. Does anyone have spring rate info on the H&R's. I heard the h-techs are 179/252. So guys give your opinions, is it worth going from H&R's to H-Techs' or am I just replacing one spring with another that's practically the same drop, performance and ride?

I doubt it'd be worth the trouble and the money. The tein's will probably ride a little harder and I doubt the height difference will be noticeable unless you break out a ruler.

There is a whole thread dedicated to pics of H-techs on 4th Gens. I will try to search for it.

Hey thanks for the link, kept passing by that one in the search for some reason.

Anyway, here is my H&R drop and optimus310's Tien H-Tech drop. Looks to me like the H-Techs do appear lower. I'm guessing the performance can't be any worse. Alex has a group deal going on these right now for 170 some bucks right now, so now is the time if I want to change.

I think that the rear drop is about the same, but in every pic I have seen, it looks like the front of the H-Tech setup is lower, making it look more level.

If you do it, make sure that you take LOTS of level before and after pics, and measure your "center of hub to top of wheel arch" height on both setups (after the H-Techs settle, of course).

If I had the $, I would be on H-techs now.

actually that pic that you got from my car is from when I had my sprints.
I haven't take any new pics from my Teins once they are all settled but the drop is great. Is not that far from the sprints and the ride, and handling is awesome.
You probably won't see much difference on by replacing your H&R, but it would be good to know how they ride in comparison to H tech

here is the pic of the H-techs the next day after the install.
I've had them for few weeks now, and they look lower now. I'll try to take a new pic later on

Man I was all excited about the pic I posted too.

Thanks for the updated pic. The drop does look similar to the H&R's, but still a little lower IMO. I'm just looking for something a little lower, but don't want too harsh a ride or the compromise of performance that can happen when springs are too low. If you could get a pic of the wheel a little closer up or more light so you can see where the tire ends compared to the fender (hard to see in the one you posted) that would be awesome.

I dont see the point of wasting time and money to go from one subtle drop to another unless you are unhappy w/ your H&Rs. Might as well step up and go for the Stechs and try to make wheel gap a thing of the past

I think the s-techs are too low. I don't think there is enough suspension travel left to perform well. I may try progress. They are a little better drop, but still leave some room for suspension travel.

2 reasons.
1- getting a body kit soon, so I wanted to raise the car a bit
2- wanted to try something different after having the sprints for almost a year

At first I wasn't very happy with the drop. I need it a bit more, but it grew on me, and now I love the way it looks, and feels.

I do miss my sprints, and KYbs. But the new setup really rides much better

These are some very good pics! It's nice to see a comparison between different springs on the same car. I think I will be going with the Tein H springs now along with my KYG GR2's!

I think you would be happy w/ Progress springs, I have been. If I were tro get different springs they would have to be the Stechs......

MaxMods has the Tien H-Tech drop as 1.6" front 1.2" rear. Is that right? 1.2 seems awfully small, but I also have a 5-speed and I really don't want the front gap to be noticeably bigger than the rear, which seems to be a common problem. Optimus, in the other thread you said the H-techs are very comfortable....sounds good. I want something as comfortable as the H&Rs or Tokicos. Would you guys say the H-Techs are as good or better as the H&Rs or Tokicos in terms of COMFORT (not harsh) and HANDLING? Thanks.

ohannon7,
What springs do you have on in the first page of your website?

Vlad,
Yeah, take some pics if you can!

I'm wondering if the H-techs really give the drop they say. If it's 1.6 in the front, they should be noticeably lower than the H&R's. 1.2 does seem a little on the small side if the front is going down 1.6.
