ok i changed my wheel bearing a week or ago, the wheel had alot of play when i moved it in a back and forth type mothin, as in one habd on top and one on bottom and pushing and pulled with either hand.
My rim still moves alittle even after changing the wheel bearing, what else could be my problem??
should i just tighten the **** outa the hub bolt(its pritty tight as it is) or is my axle just messed up

Could be the control arm ball joint, or your top strut mount. Possibly even the steering tie rod.

Silly question, but do you have that axle nut tightened down all the way?
and how do i check the derferentioal bearings? Cuase the axle does have play in it but im not sure what it is

These bearings need almost 200 ft-lbs of torque on the axle nut to seat properly... This might require an air tool like a garage uses...
What was the condition of the hub? Mine was really tore up from driving on bad bearings for so long.

I have experienced exactly the same problem. I believe the problem comes from pushing the hub too far into the bearing inner races during assembly. Then when you drive the car, the axle pushes against the hub and gradually moves it back out a fraction of an inch or so. When the hub is pushed back out, it takes the outboard inner race with it and opens a gap between the inner races. This results in an opening up of bearing clearances and the excess play you feel.Originally Posted by maxspeed96CT

what did you end up doing, and i didnt just change the bearings , i changed the hole peice, it was a ***** to take out.
Did you end up just leaving the slight play?
im gona take everything aprt tomro morning and see what i could do.

I first noticed this after I changed my bearings about 25k miles ago. I've been meaning to do something about it, but I've got too much other stuff I need and/or want to do. I expect the bearings to not last as long, but so far I have had no problems. Steering still feels tight, and no bad noises indicating the bearings are going.Originally Posted by maxspeed96CT

When you said you took out the whole piece, what did you mean? Outer bearing races? Yeah, it's not an easy job. Fortunately I have access to a hydraulic press.
Kinda newb question when the wheel bearing was Fup did it give like a vibration and sounded like a flat ?

ya i took out the hole peice that holds the bearings and the everything, im not sure but some change just the bearing and leave everything else. I didnt have acces to any press, just a sledge hammer and some good ol time.Originally Posted by Stephen Max
