Cat Questions

I was atttempting to put on the Y pipe and for a few hours i spent torchin, sprayin and tuggin on the cat bolts that are severly rusted. I took the heat sheild off but in the process all the heat sheild bolts broke off haha i thought it was funny. Do i need the heat sheild back on the cat or can i just leave it off? If i leave it off will the cat be open to more rust?

Second I plan to just cut the bolts off the car and re drill new ones anyone think this is a bad idea?

Last but not least i notices that ground wire by the cat is broken apart so something isn't getting grounded, but no problems or check engine lights have ever come on. What does that ground wire do and is it important?

If you just mean the heat shield that covers the bottom of the cat - then don't worry about it.. mine rusted off two years ago and I asked my dealer about it and they said don't worry about it - just don't park over a stack of dried leaves after driving a long distance - Really, no joke...

If you ever take off the heatshields between the exhaust the underbody of the car, you probably want to do that more carefully - since you need those, otherwise the floor of the car will get too hot on the inside, nice foot wamer in winter, but not pleasant in summer.
