Ignition Switch Problem

Strange problem, harder to explain. Sometimes when I turn the key on the ignition, I get lights, but does not turn over the engine. Usually if I go back and forth it will eventually engage. It has always eventually started with myself, buy my wife has not had such luck, or wrist strength.

Any thoughts out there? I am baffled, and not ready to give a mechanic an open ticket to find a problem.

Thanks to all.

i have the same problem, and from what i've been told it's the electrical relay that's causing the problem. the part is like $28. it's located under the shroud on the steering column...i'll let the other guys explain it, since i haven't done it yet.

Found Answer

The solution is in the 4th Gen How to section. Should have looked there first, but thought it was too obscure. Guess it is more common than I thought.

Thanks to all.

Sorry, but I must be blind. I can't seem to find it in the How-To section. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I'm having the same problem in my car where it sometimes won't start, not even turn over. All I can hear is a clicking noise from the engine. Are you getting that clicking noise as well?

_ck69_ - your problem sounds like either the starter relay or the starter itself...

No clicking. Just light on the dash. I thought up to now that it was a badly made key.
