new CF hood for us! made by Aerogear...

OKAY, so after a year of waiting, the hood has arrived. They had a metal frame made last year and were going to test it on my maxima. Apparently, it had already been shipped overseas to get the CF overlayed and it has finally come back. On Monday, I'm going out there to get it installed.

"made with 2 layer plain weave pattern CF from the USA"
"all hoods have fully reinforced fiberglass underframing"
"Made of UV Protected polyster resin"
"60-70% lighter than stock metal hoods"
"carbon fiber weaving is flawless without twists or gaps"
"each hood has seemless rolled edges"

That's what it says for their general info on carbon fiber hoods... but they don't have anything on the maxima in either their catalog or website. I'll find out the price and specs more specifically when I go there on Monday.

It is an OEM style hood.

hmm... so what kind of information should I get from them? I'm not sure if I should get hoodpins or not.... he said it uses the same latch and all. If I do get hoodpins, I will probably go with gunmetal so it isn't too obvious vs. chrome or silver. I will make sure to see if it's a plastic or metal latch lol. Maybe a group deal???

Anyways, i'll post pics of the hood in every angle if everything goes okay tomorrow (waiting a whole year for it has really made me cautious about getting my hopes high!).

well, I did some searching on their other hoods and they all seem to be right around $400... so I'm guessing it will be around that same price range? I am not sure.

oh **** wait a second... I just came across a website that actually has a price quote on a maxima?!

WC8252-BK Nissan Maxima 95-99 Reg: $435.90
Sale: $392.90

hmm... i think it's best I get specifics tomorrrow.

well yeah of course, thanks for the suggestion guys. I am getting the hood "sponsored" since I am helping them with testing.

slammed: that's great info, thanks, I will definately ask those questions. Are the hoods made by redline/gtp/custommax made with epoxy resin? I know that makes alot of difference... my friend's hood on his RSX is starting to crap out on him after a year.

Well, I will be taking LOTS of pictures and posting it... I was considering getting it clearcoated just to protect it some more, but I'm not sure yet.

So far, I can say that the sales rep for aerogear is great.

OKAY i got the hood.. it's sweet!

It's perfect fitment... it has all the holes necessary for mounting the hood on and for the hood struts.

The hood weighs around 15lb!!! I'm not sure about the exact weight but he said he'll get me specs within a month... they have to make changes to the latch system. The opening on the latch is smaller than required so they had to drill alot.

The latch IS made of metal...

It also has a clearcoat layer on it, but he recommended I add an additional coat. I might do t hat, but for now, I am going to put layers of NXT Wax (highest UV rated wax i have right now).

Damnit, I took pictures, but I forgot to bring my CF reader. I will post them when I get home from work... that's like 4-5 hours from now. I'll reply to this thread and post a link to the new pictures thread that I made.

Oh yeah, aerogear wants to make 2 new kits for the maxima as well as a wing.

okay, more to come soon!
