tranny problems

hey guys,
i have grown tired of this car and i think i may soon get rid of it. im driving back from the sema show in ac and we r just crusing in 5th gear and all of a sudden it pops into neutral. at first i thought maybe my clutch or somethin isnt working right and my car is screwed, but only the shifter came out of 5th gear and i clutched and put it back into 5th. we drove for 5mins more and once again the shifter jumped out of 5th and right into neutral.i thought maybe the rough jersey road was causeing my car to shake and make it pop out. we get onto a smooth stretch of road and once again it pops out. all night long it only poped out of 5th gear. we thought maybe it was fluid related but the fluid is full and i dont see any new leaks on the ground. my friend suggested that maybe my short throw shifter is set to low and its now making the shift cables to be over pulled. im not sure wat to think and i feel that if i have to replace my tranny then im gonna get rid of this car cause i cant see me boosting a car with such a crappy tranny. i honestly need some help with this probelm and thats y i came to u guys. ohh also every other gear works just fine and once its in 5th gear it drives fine, it just pops out after a while.
thanks,
will

Well, tell your friend it is a control rod and his honda cable design does not apply to us Nissan guys/ galls. That being said, it very well may be placement of your shifter.

Aslo it could be poor adjustment of the shift fork. 5th gear uses it's own shift fork. I doubt this would be a very expensive fix.

It is a FWD family sedan, you can only ask so much of these cars. I also wish the transmissions were a bit stronger.

sup liquid venom, i had this same problem with my 4th gear. It would appear to be bad syncros', however, after replacing a few springs between shifter/tranny area (shop did), the car gets into gear and sits in gear perfectly. HOpefully one of your springs are worn out? but worst case i would think the syncro's are wearing....
