I would at least wipe it down with wax and grease remover. I might suggest some light sanding to scuff it up a bit to give the paint someting to grab on to.

Probably just to protect it while shipping or something. I don't know. I imagine that if it does not have paint on it, if it dried out, it might split.

Your going to paint it yourself? I took my Stillen lip to my pals body shop, they acid stripped it so the paint would adhere, primed and painted with a lot of flex agent to stop it from cracking as the urathene panels are extremely flexible. Good luck

I'm getting it mounted this friday can't wait I'll post a pic soon!

I think the oily feeling is a release agent the manufacturer mixes with the poly-urethane. This prevents the pieces from sticking in the mold and makes pulling the pieces from the mold much easier.

Typically, body shops will sand the hell out of a piece and set it in the sun for a while. Release agent will continue to come up to the surface of the poly-urethane and the body shop will have sand and re-sand until this process finally stops.

This is something that you certainly DON'T want to do on your own, unless you're experienced or don't really care what the final product looks like.

Yes, You must clean all your parts with a wax and grease remover.
Use PPG's DX 330 or DuPont's Prepsol.

You must also use an adhesion promoter before you prime the parts.

I paint for a living so feel free to ask anything and I'll try to help out the best I can.
