MAF Install
MAF Install
hey guys... Before i start I would like to say that i checked the faq and found nothing regarding changing a MAF sensor.
My car hesistates above 3.5K. Pulled codes and got a MAF malfunction.
Purchased replacement from ORG member. Installed MAF this morning, however the car still hesistates.
Do i need to reset the ECU or is there another trick.
All cables have been plugged back in.
Any suggestions?

As you found out, replacing the MAF is pretty straight forward. Make sure your connection is tight, then reset your ECU. You may have to disconnect the negative on your battery for an hour or two. BTW Are you sure you returned the ECU to the proper position after pulling the codes?
ECU reset should only take 5 minutes. You MAF connector is most likely corroded, pull it off and look for green/nastyness on the copper tips. If its there, go to Radioshack buy an alocohol pen, they are like $4 if I remember right. Shine those tips up, and it should fix your problem. And yeah, you are going to want to reset the codes from the ECU (instructions in the FAQ). Also, you might try giving it some gas via the throttle cable while wiggling the MAF sensor, see if it has any affect on it.
While in neutral the car will rev to red line. I am not sure what to expect out of the car while reving in neutral with or without a working MAF.
Regarding the ECU reset... The ECU was reset maybe 2 weeks ago, and the check engine light did not come back on. Thats why I was curious about the need to reset the ECU.
Grounding the MAF? I will investigate exactly how the MAF is grounded when i get home. The car is supercharged so its probably in a none standard location.
