Weird noise when AC is on

This noise has been occuring for about a year now. Whenever I turn the AC on. I hear a loud noise that has some creaking or squeeks to it along with the fan. It seems to be coming from the belt area around the pulleys. I first thought it was the compressor but wasn't to sure. It makes the car sound old. I feel embarassed when I turn on the AC while sitting in traffic because the sound is annoying and is noticeably audible and gets louder at the onset on acceleration, once I accelerate the noise is gone. This noise is also virtually nonexistant when the fan is on or the AC is off. ON the same note, I was riding in my freinds '93 Camry last night and noticed he had the same noise when his AC was on but the noise disappeared when the AC was off. Has anyone else had this problem before? What is it and how can it be fixed?

That's your answer. Check the belts

Better yet, just replace them if your car has over 80K miles on it or is older then 5 years.

my compressor makes the noise regardless if the ac is on or not...you could try gettin a shorter belt and if the noise it gone then that would be your problem

I had the same problem it was the clutch (yes clutch) in the AC compressor.
Try the belt first though it will save you a ton of time and money if that is it.

I'm already usig shorter belts. I still have the RVM underdrive pulley. I haven't had any problems with oil leaking. I remember that I had to have shorter belts than stock with this pulley. The pulley was installed a year ago though. Could the belts still be the problem? Would the clutch in the AC compressor require the entire compressor being replaced?

I have the same problem. The noise is on fulltime, accelarating or not.I had the dealership take a look at it yesterday and they were like, buddy, you need a new ac compressor. Try a junkyard or something, if we do it, its going to cost you some serious cash. Autozone has them for about 240 so I might go that route.

They are Gates belts, numbers K-060408 and K-040292. There was a write up under drive pulley installs and these were the belts that were recommended. Those are the ones that I have on now.
