98 SE rear-ended while parked!

I started the long weekend with my Max getting rear-ended while it was parked. Worst part was that just as I walked away from the car, a spot directly in front of the door where I was going into opened up... I paused, looked at my car, thought about moving it, then decided "naaaah, I'll be inside 5 minutes." Three minutes later, my alarm was going off and I walked out to see this:

Awesome, eh? Here's the rest of the pics and some estimates I got on the repair. Luckily the guy didn't leave the scene (was driving the white van) and it's a company truck, so they might just pay me off directly. Still in the process of finalizing the details.

At the moment I'm mostly pist about the fact that they don't sell the red/clears that I have anymore. I've seen the ones they have now on custommaxima.com, I don't really like the 2-piece clear look. Guess I'm gonna have to try to make my own left-side red/clear with my old tail light and some light diffuser screen. Hopefully it matches the other side, I have pieces of my broken tail light to compare.

indeed, real good thing that he didn't leave. Actually, from the force of the impact the bumper on his van was pushed into the tire, so he wasn't going far. I still gotta call the company he works for, hopefully they'll just take a look at my $2600 estimate and send ME a check.

I have 35% tint all around. I got hassled by the cops too many times with my 5% and 20% on my last car, so far no complaints with this.

Thanks for the tint info... the best thing to do is to go to the best body shop you can find - get an estimate from there (I'm not sure of the two body shops you already got estimates from - they may be good shops)... and call the company the driver works for with that estimate... as you plan to do.

Good luck.

A good friend of my brother's did body work for 15+ years and still does work on the side. I may talk to him and see how much he wants to do it, and how perfect he thinks he can get it. Hopefully this company just writes me a check to avoid a claim on their insurance, I think the inconvenience and distress I'm going through is worth at least $1500 in profit to myself

sorry about the damage .. I know how city driving and parking can be. When my brother took my max to Chicago, the damage was as bad, if not, worse, I saw this after he gave me the max back early spring .. mine took both front and rear damage .. see the links from my cardomain page

this was caused not only by city parking but negligence on his part

Much appreciated... but I think with the extra $1500 or so I'll scam off this guy, a new MEVI and some body work on my van will more than help me get over it
