help! sound coming fromdriving chain cover.

There is a creeking sound coming from my drive chain. It started on and off and irregularly but now its loud enough that I can hear it from inside the car with my loud exhaust. I have also being experiencing some perfomance loss. I'm thinking that the chain is loose or something is wrong with the water pump since there is some coolant leak from near the cover. I anyone has experienced this or know what it could be please help.

Never heard of creaking sound, because that would mean loose belts.

If it were a more rattle type of noise, then the tensioner is on it's way out, but no performance loss should be felt.

I just figured it out! It turns out that the sound starts when the fan kicks in and this points to the water pump. This also explains the problems with my cooling system that I've been having lately. This might also explain some of the performance loss.

luckily I have an extra pump from my old engine but I might just go ahead and purchase a new one so I dont have to go through this hassle again. But the labor is what I'm dreading having to remove the cover in that tight engine compartment. but what has to be done got to be done anyways thanks for the help.
