Changing 95 trunk to 97 and need some help!!!!!

i just ot my hands on a sweet 98 trunk at a good price and i am in need of some help. i took the old one off and put on the new one and everything bolts up fine. then i noticed the key hole and figued i wont be able to close it because i wont be able to close it and unlock it with the key. i need to know how can i remove the key lock from my original trunk and place it on my new trunk. i tried practicing by trying to take off the lock on my new trunk and i can only get it loose, i cant see how it can be completely removed.

also i connected all the power harnesses and thought that the power trunk could just be used to open the trunk but when i close the trunk it is not locking close, it just stays there and doesnt actually click in to completely close. everything seems to line up ok, any reason why it doesnt actually close. is it because of the key lock.

i need any help you guys can dish out i want to get this all done asap. thanx i advance, you guys are awsome.

if you are talking about the trunk release in the car, no it isnt stuck. i can press it and i hear it clicking in the trunk. the trunk just isnt staying closed. does the original lock from my 95 trunk need to be installed for it to actually stay closed

ok i managed to move the lock from my old trunk to the new one and put the trunk back on the car. the trunk still isnt latching closed. i can see why now.... the bottom latch that the top would click into doesnt seem as if it is long enough to click and lock the top latch. when i close the trunk it isnt connecting. i un screwed the bottom latch and moved it up a little bit and it locks closed but the trunk wont close evenly, the trunk doesnt close completely shut and is elevated like 1-2 inches.

do i need to get a replacement bottom latch from the 97 or is there some way this can be done without having to buy another latch. this is begining to be very frustrating, has anyone else had these problems when swapping trunks

I think I know what it is. When you push the button theere is a striker that is pulled to open the trunk. At the end of that striker there is a METAL ***** that pulls to open the latch. Right before that ball is a rubber washer that keeps the ball in the proper place so that the latch works fine. Check that.

i checked that and i see the striker, everything i ok because when i turn the key the striker moves an it hits the release on the latch with no problems.

from what i can see its the bottom latch that isnt gripping the top latch on the trunk to keep it locked. i removed the bottom latch and moved it up and the trunk will lock now but since i moved the bottom latch up, the trunk will not close completely. it will close but it leaves a huge gap.

i know there are many people who have done this conversion, where are you guys. i desperately need your help.lol

thanx to everybody for helping me out and giving your advice. right now i just have the latch rigged so i can keep it closed and locked but it still has the gap, ill leave it like this untill i can figure out what to do.

any help is greatly appreciated, please guys HELP!!!!!
